My 2 cents worth. I built my 3x2 unit in about 2002. I used HotRodCarbs.com Automotion rochester carb service. Longer shafts, beveled blades for front and rear carbs and their best rebuild units. The new shafts and beveled blades seal off the base plate. This 3x2 set up runs flawlessly.
Pull your carbs and look at the shafts and blades.

Can you please give details, eg PV sizes, jets etc to help original poster.

  3. I've come to the conclusion there are great running 3x2 setups and there are poor running 3x2 setups. I base this opinion solely on the reports of individuals reporting their experience with them. I've also come to the conclusion that certain people are provided only s**** and junk for carbs to work with and the others are subject to get junk as well as s**** and even pristine examples. However my theory of blaming parts falls apart when you find both great and poor running 3x2 set ups emerge from either pile.

  4. I've already stated I have the beveled plates

All the beveled plates and the pontiac glue in the world will do no good at all if the shafts are loose in the throttle body.
I repair them by counterboring the base from each side with a piloted counterbore , with the base bolted to a right angle plate on the mill. I do not bore all the way through just far enough to insert a 3/8 long teflon bush which are then reamed to .001 "- .002" clearance for a new standard size throttle shaft. New plates centered and sealed with new screws . Which are then staked on a special jig to avoid bending the shaft. The plates will seal 100% with this approach and should not need any "magic fix" glue. The heavy plates do work better for secondary carbs.

97, great info. I reamed my bases with a .278 reamer to fit the oversized .277 shafts. I always wondered if the .278 ream was too much. Also, your repair with the teflon bushing sounds like an effective repair. My pile of junk bases just got a lot more useful. Thank you. It is amazing how much "new stuff" we can learn about these 60 +year old carbs and after how much has already been written about them. Does anyone have an effective repair for stripped power valve threads in the main body? (If my comments are considered a "hijack" please remove this post.)

the new plates won't have any idle circuits, so you don't have to mess with them. Sounds like the end carbs have some issues. I'd start with either fixing them, or replacing with rochesters or something. Then go from there, as far as tuning goes.

  10. Contacted ****s hot rod carbs and he has gone out of his way to try and get me situated on this. I gotta say this fellow offers fantastic A+ service second to none. He is THE go to guy for multi carb old school setups hands down.

Looking forward to seeing how this thing runs after they are back. Not many folks offer old school real deal service like that any more.

  11. Okay guys the update you all been waiting for..

****s hotrod carbs, man I can't say enough about this guy. I got the carbs back (he packaged them VERY well and they are back on the car,I can't contain myself how happy I am that the car sounds and lopes like it did back when I first built it (before I put tri power).

This guy is a miracle worker. His service is second to none by far. I'm over 100% satisfied with this. I can't say enough how nice he's been and his work is outstanding. I feel how I did when this car first fired up years ago

It's worth every penny to have an expert do his thing on your carbs.

I've been using a Pontiac Tri-Power expert for my Rochester carbs, always flawless right out of the box. His first name is **** as well.

It's not worth the struggle, just pay the man and get it done.

  14. Took it for a spin tonight at our local car show, found some small problems with the car but the carbs run fantastic! Not on single issue from them. The big issues are gone as well as the small ones. It's like driving a different car, last few times I was sorta not into it due to how it's been running, tonight I enjoyed the car and have some pride in it again.

I recommend anyone having multi carb issues to look him up,he will get it sorted out. And fast too. I really can't say it enough how happy I am with his service,at***ude and over all work.
