Features The '40/41 Pickup

Here's another picture from a while back when I was trying to get up to a dozen at one time!!



This one later became this one after my pal, Gerry, bought it. He did an outstanding job!

There is nothing so permanent as a temporary solution which works.

 

Here is one I put together from parts of several trucks and a sedan frame,over the course of twenty years. Finished it in 2009, drove for awhile then sold it to a guy in Austin. The '40-'41 are by far my favorite PU.

 

FB 31 Yes indeed sir you have a sweet ride there with the flatmotor, finish it up and sell her to me !

 

The ones you piece together always seem to turn out the best, don't they?

To a point. The first three yrs. going to swap meets drove me crazy, I was always finding better body parts than I had. Which meant I had to keep going to swap meets to sell what I had after buying the better parts. LOL It was a learning experience, I actually believe I spent more than if I had bought a complete truck to start with.

Holy cow! That's so cool. Now that I have seen this, I have to make one. It will be a challenge to make the rrruuunnniiinnnggg bbbooaaarrrdddsss, but, damn.

 

I like the cream wheels!!!

 

Great photos--love 40-41 pickups but have never done one-done a bunch of coupes. a few sedans and a woody--maybe my next adventure.

 

.....and the Radirs(?) too?

 

Here's mine with 39 headlights. Great driver.

 

Here's a couple more. 1 up in Sweden a few years ago now when it was still "clean". The other in France a couple of years back. All ready, I hope, for this years 8,000 mile drive.

 

Here is another project I further assembled before passing along to the next guy.




A very solid truck that had dual sunvisors---only one I ever recall seeing.
The fellow that bought it finished getting it together and added some updates.

He always wanted one and saw mine advertised and took the plunge. I made several subsequent visits to his garage to help in a few areas and he got it on the road and is loving it. Another one back from the brink.

Frank's comment about owning 15 pickups got me to thinking and trying to recap how many 40 pickups I've owned.
I came up with 12 that were complete trucks; ie, not just components but had at least a cab mounted on the chassis and had a good title. In addition, I think I bought 2 or 3 just cabs. Still have one cab and a chassis I bought separately. I only have the 36 Fordy now and am still loving it.

 

Used more than one truck to build this ..

 

I love the 40-41 Ford pickups. They are too small in the cockpit but I love'm anyway. Here are a few of my favorites.

A Brizio build that is still my favorite.

The color and stance are perfect on this truck.


The SBC fits like it was made for these trucks.

A local truck with the best of the best installed including a dressed flathead.

I fell in love with the color on this 41.They really don't need much to make them a classic.


My friend Bob-O chopped his 4 inches, fixed the rust and it's done. The flatty with the Columbia make it a cruiser.

 

I don't really know the answer.

A friend of mine just bought it, and he doesn't know either.

Man, I love the stance on this thing.

I'd love to know more about the suspension/wheels/tires.

Dropped front axle? How much?

Dropped front spring? How much?

Stock spring out back? Transverse leaf springs?

Wheel size up front? out back?

Tires sizes?

Tim, they are neat old trucks but very small in the cockpit. I have owned a couple and my old back just wouldn't handle the cramped compartment.

 

Lynn--on the lookout for something-PU's are cramped and my back is not good at all but I like them a lot-Oh well-maybe another coupe???
