Just curious if anyone out there knows of or remembers this 1955 Studebaker speedster custom????.. was shown at the Seattle worlds fair in 1962. and featured in Car Craft magazine in 1965..
Don't know it but it sure is a pretty car.....I really like the looks, the stock front end....even its mother would question her love. Hope someone knows something about this one.
Gary Minor just told me about this car, and mentioned that it is currently for sale quite reasonably. I ***ume it's the car he was talking about; the '55-'56 Chrysler grille can't have been put in very many Studebakers. It really is a nice change from the '55 Stude grille. He said that the Car Craft article was December '62, and as I understand it the car is currently in Washington state. I'll get more information from Gary and come back with it.
Apparently in the '62 Car Craft it was done using '58 Olds taillights and was bumperless. The Continental taillights and Corvair bumpers came later, but work very well on the car. I guess the later Car Craft article show it in the revised form. It has a small-block Ford and 4-speed in it, and apparently a beautiful interior. Gary's gonna send me some pictures of it in the earlier form. I'll post them when I get them.
50Fraud.. My Mistake on the 65 car craft.. I wanted to see if anyone else remembered it or had any more info on it.. I used to own it in the late seventies.. at the time it still had the Stude 289 and 4spd.. it still has the original "rose mist" and white rolled and pleated interior that was done in 61 or 62 and still in very nice condition Yes the car is here in Washington and for sale.. I had a nice meeting with the current owner and he showed me the car Craft mag.. it was different then, no bumpers and tailights... Brian Ellis (Omar the tent maker) owned it during the early sixties and apparently did the car shows. I would love to see more pictures of it..
The pictures I got were current ones, and in some weird format that the HAMB wouldn't accept. I e-mailed them to you, Livrat.
It was just on evilBay a few weeks ago..... ..... and the new owner is now spiffing it up a bit, and then plans on selling the custom once again
I own the car now. I bought it from the gentleman from Graham you talked to, Livrat. I live in Bellingham, WA. I was in high school in Tacoma in the 1960's. This was a high profile car then. Made all the west coast shows and several magazines. It was nicely done and the styling is still attractive today (although it needs to be pink pearl again ). It currently has a '62 New Yorker grill in it. I put out an all points bullitin for a '56 New Yorker grill after I bought the car. One of my buddies in the San Francisco Bay Area spotted one at a recent Hayward swap meet and forwarded the contact info to me. I called up the seller and made a deal. I was in the Bay Area last week and went by his house to pick it up. The seller was Gary Minor. What a great car guy! It was worth the purchase just to get to meet him. We talked about this car (and 40 others ) for a couple of hours. Could have spent 3 days there easily. I've corrected the stance to what it was in the early 60's, and put on some wide whites and repoped Fiesta hub caps so that I'm not embarased cruising town in it . Here's what it looks like now and a few pics from early 60's magazines... http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/ddstnkmp/album?.dir=38a9 I will probably sell the car. I'm currently over my limit on Studebakers . This is my current hot rod...'54 Starliner, 365 HP 327, close ratio T10. Otherwise pretty stock Studebaker. http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/ddstnkmp/album?.dir=a9dc If anyone has any information on this Kustom Speedster, please let me know. I've been invited by the editor of Turning Wheels Magazine (monthly publication of the Studebaker Drivers Club) to do a story on the car and to have it photographed for the cover. Any info or old pictures would be appreciated (LivRat?) Regards, -****-
Your "corrections" are clear improvements, and your black car is outstanding! And yes, Gary is a neat guy.
I was thinking 8 track, but it looks like they weren't invented until 1964, and I believe that picture is from '62 or '63. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/8-track A TV AND a record player. That's livin' -****-
