Huh, so there are two repro ones out there. The one Titus shows is close to the original, but lacks the porosity holes and maybe more basic manufacturing methods of the old ones. Cool all the same.
I could be wrong, but it just seems to good, there is some porosity in the casting but not bad, i just swear when i bought this one there was like 2 more that popped up shortly and i had seen them before too. hard to say. this one is drilled for rochestor 2bbl pattern but is see that the other one posted as the bolt that goes thru the port (the one studd sticking up in the pic where the carbs bolt) jeff
Just found an old Almquist with carbs and put it on Ebay. Won't fit my '53 truck engine. Happy to join the gang here. Been using it to check on things. Thought I am so old, maybe I can join and contribute something. I have forgotten a lot, so I must have known something.
I threw mine on there for a few days with fresh 94's and got a offer for 124$. I pulled it. I'll probably run it some day. It's a cool peice for sure. The 97's bring more bucks for some reason. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Coolest app for the twin carb adapter, on top of a 1938 McCulloch supercharger. Sorry I don't have a pic of the twin carbs but here is the McCulloch.
Hey look there's one! Happened to hit this on another thread, posted today. What are the chances? Didn't know this car existed but it is cool as hell. Can't copy picture so will link to thread. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=841078
I ran this setup for several years and it ran pretty good. I had the carbs linked together, progressive linkage would probably be smoother.
Reviving this thread. I've actually been looking for a Y adapter at swap meets this year. I would have been happy with any of the many manufactures. This past weekend I actually found one at a swap meet near Vancouver. I was pretty happy, it's in great shape. It has the 4 hole (is that Rochester?) as well as the 3 hole Ford bolt pattern on the base. The adapter came with a couple of 94's that need to be gone through. I'll probably do a progressive linkage. I'm going to have to guess at the jet size to start. Any thoughts? I honestly don't even know what I have in them. It's going on a basically stock 8RT with 49 Merc cheater aluminium heads in a 29 Roadster. I'm at 1300' elevation here. These will probably be on the back burner this summer as I've got bigger fish to fry with the car right now. This will probably be a fall project. My engines running fine now but I need to do a bunch before it's going down the road.
Why spend good money and valuable time on something that has poor performance when you can get great performance and looks on a dual intake. That thing does not atomize fuel well. Even during the days this thing came out on the market, it was thought to be a dud.

Now all you need are a couple of those J.C. Whitney "mini-super charger" thingys (carb adapters with little propellers in them) to really screw up your fuel distribution!
Wow.... I don't know. Maybe I should just chuck all this a just get a crate motor instead? Why am I running 6 volt? Why am I using bias ply tires? Why do I have manual adjust brakes? This isn't something I could possibly explain to YOU. Thanks for your input though.
That thank you may not be genuine I'd guess. Your list above is related to tried and true mechanics that work and have worked for decades. I hope you've read the whole post with those who posted the Intakes problems at the beginning and are not just enamored with its looks. It truly isn't a good intake. If my honest opinion hurt your feelings, get over it and sell it to another guy who thinks they look cool.
Here's an old post which also provides information on these. 286merc. An old carb guy and hotrodder from the 50s even chimes in. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/horrably-running-flathead.65025/
I bought this Edelbrock one into two about a year ago and sold it to a friend to run on his blower on his flathead. Notice the Edelbrock is upside down when mounted from one two barrel to two 2 barrels; only one I have ever seen in 55 years collecting flathead speed equipment!
The three fastners for the original mount. one is the slot screw between the V8 and the other mount screws are were the holes are. So it bolts down with the original three holes, studs are nor used the scree head bolts go into the casting of the blower.
It'd be interesting to know the history of this. I know in my area there were guys having small batches of parts cast years ago. Of course it would've been like that in most scenes. This kind of odd ball stuff is pretty cool.
Oh ya of course, I didn't even think of that. That's how they helped keep it so low profile. Very cool.
