How was York this year? I couldn't make it this year but I talked to a friend this morning and he said this was probably his last year going, but wouldn't tell me why, said "I don't want to talk about it".
I was there Sat. only. Weather was perfect, car count maybe down a little from last year, vendor count down tremendously from last yr. I've been going since it was in Timonium in 1974. In many ways it has lost it's relevancy.
Sorry, I didn't take pics.. (was actually here looking for some myself!) This was my 10th year with my car, and probably my 12th or 13th time going. It was a good weekend, and a fun time... but every year I've gone has been a little smaller, and a few less vendors each year. That is true for every single year since about 2004 as far as I can tell. Still a good time, and a nice relaxing weekend, but I wish attendance would increase. The cruising on Rt 30 was fun to watch as always, with many locals who don't even enter the actual show cruising up and down the blvd. for hours.
Sad. Vendors seem down since they built the new pavilion. Fewer cars-and many the same every year. That's probably fun if you're a participant but not so much if you're a spectator. Actually, this year, for the first time in many, I skipped the 1.75 hour drive-I went to the AACA Eastern Regional meet instead. 640+ #1 restorations in a concors type display-free parking and free admission.
So the same cars shouldn't come back each year? Or should we all build new cars each winter so spectators have something new to look at? Kinda hard to have any annual car event somewhere and not have many of the same cars attend. The only way shows stay big and vendors pay to set up is when people actually come to it. I was there, (with a car registered) and will be there again next year. 3500 cars is still plenty to look at. If you want lots of vendors and lots of cars, do your part and attend. The show might be getting smaller, but it's not because I'm staying home to complain about it.
I didn't go to York, But did go to all Ford Carlisle. There were only about 8 street rods and a lot of 55 to 64 cars. That might have had something to do with the car count.
i went to york just for saturday---it was worth it for me and a buddy riding shotgun in my 32 5 window driving home in the rainstorm on the pa turnpike was not a lot of fun---see my albums for pix.
...............Guys, this was my post from last yr. (2015) but it pretty much applies to this yr. (2016). Weather was a little iffy. Got into two very brief showers on the way home Sat. afternoon.
Such hate! You missed my point entirely. Which was, if you are not participating, then viewing many of the same cars year after year loses some of the gleam. And with a very cool car show only 20 miles away from my home-all of them Grand National Senior Champions, free parking and free admission-the temptation to miss this year was too strong. http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=191872 I've traveled to York for many, many years and I'll be back next year if I can. My wife won $100 Speedway giftcards two years in a row-so there's lots to smile about. I hope you had a good time. Back in the day, the HAMB didn't think much of NSRA meets-and that was when there were 6000 cars. Too much bling and billet for the traditional crowd. My how times have changed.
Drove down and cruised around with some buddies friday night. We had a blast, and took some life off the rear tires a few times. was there sat. morning, but blasted back home right before the light rain moved in. The weather was a bit unsettled, but york is still a great time! It is not the same as 15 years ago, but I still plan to go every year. And its close to me.
