I've found several exploded views but not one specific to my 57 (Country Squire). It leaks bad between the two halves and even out of the drag link stud. The PO replaced the seals but I'm not sure it went back together correctly. I'm also not sure which end the larger end of the valve goes (towards the cap or towards the p***enger side).

I feel like I'm not making sense so any help would be appreciated.

Oh, hello by the way. I'm a long time lurker and this is my first 50's car. It's unique from the 60's Fords I have.

Also, how much is the adjuster nut supposed to be tightened down. It seems like the end camp was compressing the spring and the rod inside was loose. Is this normal?

I just went thru this on my 61 trying to fix a front end pull. Tried a half dozen times with different alignments. Nothing I did would change the pull to the right. Finally I started it up while it was up on the hoist and noticed the steering wheel would move to the right a bit. If you gave it a little gas it moved even more. A little checking in the shop manual showed you needed to tighten the nut all the way down then back it off 1/4 turn. Mine was tighten up all the way but it hadn't been backed off. So after 2 days of fooling around with the alignment, backing off that nut fixed my pull. I didn't notice if anything was loose behind the spring. Obviously if it isn't adjusted correctly it sends pump pressure through the control valve and try's to move the ram. My 61 shop manual shows an exploded view of the control valve but my 57 manual doesn't.
