Technical 47 ford clutch problems

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 47fordsuperdeluxe, Jun 7, 2016.

  1. So I rebuilt the flathead this winter and in the process installed a new clutch. I have the standard 3 speed on the tree transmission. It's back in the car now and sometimes under load in 2nd or 3rd it almost feels like its slipping just a little bit. Any ideas as to what is going on? Any adjustments I missed?

  2. Did you make sure that there is some "free play" in the pedal travel? The throw out bearing must be well clear of the clutch with the pedal retracted. New parts may have required an adjustment of the linkage.

  3. Yes. I adjusted the linkage today. There is plenty of play before the throw out bearing makes contact.

  4. When you say clutch, are you speaking of the disc or the pressure plate?

  5. Are you asking what got replaced? I replaced both the disk and pressure plate as well as new bearings
