..now that I have your attention..I remember years ago in the Egg Hrbor/Hamilton Mays Landing area on the blackhorse pike a yard full of old cars..the guy was gonna restore them all...then he died and they all were gone one day...anyone else remember this? Pics?
No , but I do remember that guy on 206 that lived in a teepee and had locomotives and cars and all kinds of junk. He was somewhat of a local celibrety anti goct type. Irv Homer of Phila talk radio fame used to talk about him .
There was a place on the black horse pike, across from tom's (bobs?) garden place one time. If you go by now you can see a 58-59 Ford 4 door out there, but not much else.
The guy on 206 is long gone. He was mentioned in the hardbound 'Weird NJ' book: Mahalchik- died in '87. Guy I know bought a '40 Ford COE at the auction- body since cut up & gone. Trying to buy the flathead that's left... I remember seeing the Fabulous Fifty Acres off 206 as a wide-eyed child. Looked like heaven to me even then.
That place has been pretty cleared out for years. I don't know if there are any cars left or not, besides the rusty Ford you can see from the road. I know my dad had been in there, I'll ask him some details and post back tomorrow.
Not much to tell. Dad was there in the late '70's. Apparently there was lots of rare cars, most had been there sence the '40's. The guy would sell whole cars, but not parts. There were lots of dogs on chains, the guys daughter had to show my dad and his friend around because she knew how to get around the dogs.
Oh,Lord,YES! Coolest place ever-blimp gondolas, steam engines, plane parts, old cars, and hand painted signs denouncing the government everywhere. I never knew anyone who actually got to buy anything, and I was long gone from Jersey (Mount Holly) when he died.
The Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola has a blimp gondola (restored) on display. The sign there said it came from a junk yard in NJ. Must be the place. Steve
The yard wasn't too far from Lakehurst Naval Air Station where the blimps were(are?) based. This is also where the Hindenburg crashed and burned in the 30's/
