I just want to give some props to Summit Racing on how well their web site is built and how easy it is to drill down for specific parts. A couple examples. I was looking for some brake fittings. If you go to their search you can type in "Brake Fitting". Then, on the left they will have a bunch of drill downs. I was then able to select the whether is was straight or angled, the size and thread pitch on side 1, then side 2, male or female, to come up with what I needed. I used this another time trying to find a radiator that would fit my project by searching for radiators within a dimension range, outlet location, with an automatic transmission cooler. No other parts supplier web site I have been to has this level of functionality, really cool.
It's similar to McMaster-Carr, they have a pretty good online catalog also. Different stuff, of course.
+1, I've used McMaster-Carr for those hard to find bits and pieces. If you can dream it up, McMaster-Carr typically has it.
A good web sight makes all the difference. I hate the sights that show you the part you need, but want you to request a quote. If you can't show me the price I just move on.
I buy a lot from Summit and their site blows the rest away. Speedway, great catalog, lousy site. Jegs, terrible catalog, so-so site. Speedway is better geared towards stock car items I am more familiar with. Odd that the Speedway and Summit catalogs show up on the same day and many times the parts are identical in price, makes me wonder if they are owned by the same corporation.
Summit also has a great no questions return policy. They send an RGA tag with the order and you can mark down what you really wanted or just return the parts. Super easy, I had to use it a few times due to my mistake. One was a drop ship from one of their suppliers and they said just send it back to Summit and they will deal with it, no restocking fees.
Not only a great, user friendly web site but they are close enough to me that I can order by noon and usually get it the next day! My favorite: their selection of inner tubes - lots of choices and they are way cheaper than any local source. Waiting for my SBF mini-starter to arrive as I type this........
Their delivery is amazing! My orders come out of their Nevada Warehouse. Orders will be at the border in 2 days.
Summit is just another supplier selling most of the same stuff everybody else is these days. They buy in enough volume that they can get better pricing from manufacturers than some others. I buy from them because I can get stuff cheap and quickly. A while back we put a LockRight in the rear diff of my son's car. Six months later it failed. I had to go several rounds with Summit to get them to warrantee it, even going to the manufacturer who they would then ship it back to and they disagreed on how long the warrantee was, my book said 2 years, theirs said 1 year. It was within regardless, but still a h***le. I was near the Sparks store a few years ago and decided to stop in. There was lots of cool shiny stuff in the show room to drool on, but the sales people didn't know any more than what the catalog showed. Devin
Just don't count on them to overnight you a part when you are stuck on the road!! Really screwed me up when I lost a wheel bearing and they were the only on that had one? Was 1000 miles from home and no help from them!!!! Jegs is much better to use!
I didn't make this post to comment on their customer service, their warranty service, or how fast they ship items, only that they have a really good search tool set up to help you nail down the part's you're looking for. I just wanted to make other HAMB'ers looking for specific parts aware of their website tools. I've bought from Summit, Jeggs, Speedway, and just about everyone in between. I have no real preference and will buy from the one with the best price and has what I'm looking for. As for your bearing, how is your bearing going out (unless it was under their warranty), them being the only ones that had it in stock, and not being able to get it to you the next day their problem? Sorry for my little rant their but when ever I see opinionated, unsupported, and off topic comments it just annoys me. -
They will price match any other seller. Just search price match on there site and call them. If my part is in Nevada warehouse I get it in two days to Idaho.
I bought their Dart top-end kit (heads, intake, etc.), a great deal in itself. It was shipped directly from Dart... free shipping to a buddy's shop. They wouldn't ship it to a house. It came via UPS in a big heavy cardboard box strapped to a small pallet.
One of the best thing I like about Summit is if I have the part # all I need to do is put it in and the part will come up. Today I will try Amazon too just to check prices. We needed some CP Pistons for our dirt race car and I found the best price on line at some obscure "Speed Shop" in the Midwest. Called the guy about them and the price and asked if he was going to "drop ship" them. He said yes. I asked if I could pick them up at CP and save shipping. I paid him and he Emailed me ok for local pickup. I printed every thing up and drove over and picked the up at will call. Saved a bunch of $$$
Summit doesn't always have the best prices. A set of their **** Rods I was looking at were like $294, got them on eBay for $255 shipped, same part number. There are lots of little places that give out great deals.
The Summit site is very nice , and easy to navigate. Well thought out and good info on parts. Summit has done very good by me for over 20 years. Speedway as well.
