    Hello
Has anyone installed a 1965 power glide in a 1931 model a frame? I have a Pontiac with a power glide and I am trying to figure out what type of crossmember to use. If anyone has done it before let me know what you used.
    Thanks

Takes the same thing as standard shift tranny, brace it up good with some angles an gustets. If you wish to think a bit ahead, you could just design it so it unbolts out of the way if you should need to work on it,with out removing engine. This is some time ago, when I was doing a restore an extra bracing. But is not designed to be removed. Hope that helps your idea flow. IMG_2796.JPG

    The Powerglide
Off the subject a bit I remember the powerglides very well and always wondered why they arn't more popular now . I had many years ago ,they took a lot of abuse .In my younger days with no money I would run them out of fluid due to leaks, the car would stop moving , I'd dump more fluid in them and off I'd go again. Correct me if I'm not mistaked but weren,t a lot of the earlier dragster using powerglides ?? Gene

If it's behind a Pont it is probably a st300......a lot of modern drag cars use the PG or an aftermarket varient......earlier dragsters were high gear only or a 3 speed w/o using first.....gassers mp, etc used hydros.....the first modern autos were converted to clutches (clutch flite, clutch turbo) until torque converters were figured out.....

Same thing I was wondering, but, there were some Powerglide's made with the BOP bell-housing pattern. They are very sought after by the BOP drag race guys, so they don't have to use an adapter. The case bell-housing bolt pattern is BOP, everything else is the same as the Chevrolet Powerglide's. If it's in fact a Super Turbine 300, it could also be a Switch Pitch model, having a torque converter with TWO stall settings, just like the Switch Pitch TH400's. As far as the mount goes, they are ALL going to be the same locationwise; Powerglide, ST300, TH350, TH200, TH250, 200R4, are all in the same place measurementwise; the 700R4 and TH400 have the mount further back.

I don't know if you watch "Street Outlaws" but Shawn with the (Murder) Nova runs a Powerglide.

  7. I fabricated this out of 1 1/2 square tubing with special bits to clear the exhausts. This under my T but an A frame. JW

  8. If it is the ST300 and switch pitch, don't junk it. The ST300 SP converter can be used in a SP T400 trans to get a poor man's higher stall. In your build you might consider going with a newer trans like a T350 or 200-4R if you want OD. Problem is the trans size with the OD trans is bigger than the 3 speeds.

PG trans is probably the most common trans used by drag racers, at least the lighter and faster ones. Heavier cars need the 3 speeds with lower first gear to help get going.

  9. I'm using a power glide trans behind a chevy 194ci straight 6 in my 30 coupe.

Down here we use K-frame centre X-members to take the flex out of the frame, something like this Dagel transmission mount may work.
