I have two sets of leaf springs I got for working on my '30 front end. I purchased the 3/4" nylon shackle kit with the intention of reusing the old axle spring perch and the leaf spring. I quickly realized that a) the original axle spring perch was way too worn out and b) it has a smaller OD than 3/4".

However on the leaf springs after I pressed out the original steel sleeve I was unable to press in the nylon bushings. I tried to read up but wasn't getting very far. I contemplated drilling them to 3/4" but ultimately decided to wait and ask. I apologize I don't have very many pictures to work off of. The first picture shows all my front end parts I was working with including both sets of leaf springs, one of which is complete.

The second picture is a close up of the leaf spring shackle mount. I believe both leaf springs are the same length and same inner diameter.

    Thanks!

  2. The inside of the spring needs to be cleaned up with some Emory cloth or sand paper. Actually, all of it could stand to be blasted.

The inserts can be shaved down a hair on a lathe to fit. The diameter of the insert where the bolt goes through you don't want to mess with.

    Easy fix.

I recently did new shackles and bushings on my OT DD. First, clean up the rust in there. On mine, it uses metal sleeved rubber bushings, and I don't have a press. I opened up the spring eye a little by wedging in some screwdrivers, then hammering in the end of a prybar. A dab of grease in the eye, some all thread, washers and nuts to make a DIY install tool, and my impact gun pushed them in. Remove the wedge, and they're not coming out again without violence.
