Hot Rods I went and looked at a 59 Edsel station wagon Friday

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Bruce Fischer, May 17, 2016.

  1. I was hoping to add another rare station wagon to my collection.{with the 56 buick and Olds wagon}Well this car has been in this fellows neighbors yard for years before he bought it. He had a daily driver Edsel that wasn't too bad but this one need everything. The floors for the most part were good though. She had a ton of bondo in the rear quarters and front fenders and the bottom of the door were rusted too. All the glass was cracked except maybe 1 piece. My main concern was did he have a clear title and was the motor locked up.Well he said he had a clear title but when I tried to turn the motor it would only turn half way before stopping. He said may it was stuck in gear. The clutch pedal was on the floor and we couldnt move the shifter {even under the hood} it was frozen up. It was a cool looking car and LONG and she still had a roof rack. The interior would of have to be redone also. So hatefully I told him I was going to have to pass on it. He was a nice car guy we talked for about an hour. Long story short. I didn't want another nightmare like the 56 buick wagon. So I guess I will keep on looking. Thanks Bruce.

if it takes less than 2 hrs to find all the parts to pile in the back of the truck i still go for it. if the price is right.

you should have bought the roof rack.

  7. I see rust.. exit, stage left. I have no patience for extensive rust repairs.

What kind of price? It'd still probably be something I'd haul home. I'm a sucker for getting projects if they're cheap. One of these days maybe I'll wake up and realize it'd be cheaper for me to save and buy a better car to begin with. Until then I'll keep buying them if they're not too much money.

If the price is good, then there are many parts you can use.
There;s the, "I dont want to sell", it price, and the "Get it out of here", price.
Somewhere in that range leaning twards the overall condition.

Better or have one finished car than 4 1/4 finished cars. You made the right call, Bruce.

  15. Thanks Belair, I love station wagons but theres a point where you just have to say no and pass.Bruce.

No problem. Good luck with your search.

  23. Not a bad looking wagon, looks like a '59 Ford with an Edsel nose, that is how much they have in common.

I looked at that same wagon. It is fixable, but at a great cost. Keep looking and be willing to travel or ship. I found this one 700 miles away 0619161111_HDR.jpg

  28. Bruce if it only turns about half a turn I would suspect that it has some stuck valves. Easy fix if that is the case, but it will entail removing the head or heads. You can do it I am sure.

So when do I see this monstrosity?:D

Uh never mind just saw it. Hell buddy that'll buff out.:D

  29. Naw, Porknbeaner. She had too must rust and had been sitting too long. I love station wagons but at 62 years old{ME} I thought it would be better to pass on it. I am still looking for station wagons. I picked up a State Trooper clone car.I have been going thru it for the past 3 weeks to make sure it is safe for the next owner. After it sells I will be on the hunt for another H.A.M.B. friendly station wagon. Take care Buddy. Bruce. 001.JPG
