These four threads appeared in 2009, discussing the front end styling of (mostly American) cars from Model Ts through 1964. None of the threads elicited more than 40-some posts, although it seems to be a subject of interest to a lot of car enthusiasts. The HAMB has grown a lot in the seven years since they appeared, and maybe there are interested newcomers who have never seen them.

I think that car styling has fallen on hard times in the last 20 years or so. There are very few affordable new cars available today that evoke the p***ion and excitement that happened every year between 1950 and 1970. Maybe a review of that era would be interesting:

Funny I just saw the "not a beauty contest" thread and was amazed at the low number of responses. One of my favorite unsung heroes of the mid fifties that was not mentioned is the '55 and '56 Packard and Clipper.

    I'd have to agree.

I am not sure what there is to discuss. It seems it would just be a bunch of people saying what their favorites are, rather than an actual discussion. Kind of like, "I like the '40 Ford Standard but not the Deluxe," to which someone will reply, "Oh, I disagree. I like the Deluxe a lot better than the Standard," to which yet another person will say, "None of them compare to the '40 Studebaker. Now that was a good looking front end."

  8. Interesting question- modern design falling on hard times. Not so sure.

Yes, I'm just 55, but I agree today's cars look like turds reworked with a putty knife. No imagination at all. I remember in the early 70's when those ****y bumpers were mandated. UGLY.

No argument here. I had hoped that HAMBers would support the cl***ic models they like best, and discussion of design details is certainly welcome -- for example, I think the canted quad headlights circa '58 were over the top, and I was happy when single round headlight came back, but a thread about canted quads drew 200+ posts. I'm particularly fond of those cars covered in parts 2 and 3, less so the four-eyed designs in the late '50s and '60s, but I realize that there are a couple of generations younger than me who only recognize the later models from 1960 on.
