  3. Hahaaa, you are sick! I gotta give you some jobs to do for me... I can't keep up. I'm serious!

I gotta go, I'm supposed to be calling the machine shop before they close and ordering flathead parts. Later!

  4. Please if it is possible can ask Buster a few Questions like
When did he first go to the lakes?
    What was his first rod?
How did he get into hot rodding?
does he have any photos of his cars and the dry lakes.
How long did he have his roadster he ran at Bonneville 1949?

What model Cad motor was it? It sucks when sellers are Arseholes like that.
That T is high on my list to build a replica of.

I have often wondered where those tyres are from thanks Jeffrey.

Ya know, it has been so long I have forgotten now. I'd guess it was the 322 and not the desirable 346. It only had 40k original miles on it. Out in Ca.

    I love that T.

A friend, Fred Thomas, that I met on the Internet gathered a bunch of car club info for a book he hoped to have published. He interviewed Jack Carpenter, and another friend here in Lake Havasu City, Fuzzy Anderson, and myself.

Fuzzy was in the Wheelers .....

and raced his roadster on the dry lake beds in So. Calif. back in the late 30's and early 40's. He has a SCTA timing tag on his Miller OHV powered 4 banger roadster that's a replica of his race car. It shows that he went 99.88 MPH at Harper Dry Lake on 11/16/41, three weeks before Pearl Harbor when he was 20 years old. When he was discharged from the Navy he went on to race jalopies and then drove a Hudson in the early days of stock car racing. He has a scrapbook containing many photos from those days.

Before Jack belonged to the Oilers, he was in the Dukes of Oceanside ....

One of the cars he had then was a chopped 41 Chevy convertible. When he returned from the Navy, he joined the Oilers in 1946.

Fred had a few copies of his book published under the title "Hot Rod and Custom Car Clubs" and gave copies to Jack, Fuzzy and myself but was unable to sell it to a publisher. He trimmed up his list of car clubs from the 40's, 50's and 60's, and self published it under the title "Car Club Memories".

  11. Bill(Bullet-Nose) Thanks for more history about the Dukes. I had read all that before. It was in a not so old hot rod magazine recently. I had stumbled upon it while googling. I also had that info on Jack Carpenter and had forgot I saved it in a folder. Stumbled across it when saving the other stuff you sent me. So much info, I forget what I have learned and saved sometimes. Thanks so much for all your info. I look forward to talking with Jack soon. I'm going to try and see Jim Nelson in March when out in Cali.

Funny, as you said Jack and Jim have talked. Jim doesn't remember. And Robert Genat tells me he met Bup from the Oilers years ago, and he had no rememberance of the old days. I'm not sure if Bup is still alive? Jim said they were all gone, but like I said before... I keep finding guys. Bup was like a secretary of sorts, seems he signed most of the Oilers documents with Jim or Don Cox.

  15. Very Cool Jerry, and great idea! I have a ton of stuff I want to make bigger.

I now finally have a loft built in my garage and have room to bring it home. It is now up in Hoboken in my buddies art studio. So soon I'll get it here and get it all hooked up to the laptop! I'll make you something good!

Wendell "Fuzzy" Anderson passed away on January 29, 2011 at the age of 89. He was a good friend of Jack Carpenter and myself and we will miss him dearly.

    RIP Fuzzy!

I am sure that Dick MeGugorac ("MAGOO") was a member of the "Gophers" in Santa Monica,Ca. in the 40's. He now lives in AZ.

@Dirtyest Devil Great Post! I recently acquired a Road Ramblers plaque that was from Warren Holden. From what I've gathered, they took 1st place in the B-Class division in '51. By any chance do you have any other pictures in your collections of their roadster? The roadster looks great, and I'd like to really know more about the club and the guys who owned it.

Road Ramblers were the sister club to us Oilers in the early days. Held their end of year banquets in conjunction with the Oilers. Road Ramblers were apparently around pre-war and Oilers started in 1947. Here's some info about Holden's car getting some attention in 1951. He apparently had a good year that year and was a cover car. Bet you can find that cover on eBay.

I like the cardboard & tape aero work on the door hinges. I'll go through my 1948 issues of CT News and see if there is any related info. Bob

Clem Waske was a Road Rambler in the 40's then that club blended into the SoCal Roadster Club and finally merged into the SDRC. According to Doc, Clem's son, The Oilers, Road Ramblers and SDRC held their Banquets together as the participated in early drag racing as seen in earlier posts on this thread.
The late Bob McCoy did this photo album with Clem' then present image in 1984. Lots of Kool history was in these guys minds, wish that I'd picked their brains 25 yrs back.......
