  2. That fogged T-Bird with the Pontiac tail lights is just awesome. I'd love me a mild T-Bird.

I've always loved that powder blue Fleetline as well. I even bought the same '50 Pontiac trim for mine a million years ago. When the trim arrived and I discovered the significant difference between the shape of the back half of a '50 Pontiac 1/4 vs a '50 Chevy, I called the owner of the blue one and he was most helpful on how the trim was modified to fit. Still have the trim but the car is gone. LOL

I really like this Poncho. I remember it in white...looks even better here! It had a great interior, with sections of very narrow (like 1 1/2"") pleats, in burnt orange. The louvers on the front fenders are an unusual touch, and I seem to recall something similar on the rear quarters as well (like wide louvers). I love the Buick headlights!
Check that abbreviated side trim, and note how the front wheel well has been slightly raised (a major mod that goes almost unnoticed)!
    Where is it now?

  10. Found this shot that shows the rear quarter louvers. Are they inverted?

According to the site it was (is?) owned by Dennis and Audrey Ingram.

  12. ^ Now that's candy!

Not knocking it but some whitewalls would really set it off.

Back in '60 my buddy had '59 corvette tail lamps on his '52 Chevy. Set further forward, no 1/4 panel mods were necessary. They just dropped into holes cut into the top of the 1/4's. Also, I think Sancho is correct as almost all 50's customs had WWW. The above Chevy is a knock out either way.

Inverted...Yes, that's it. I couldn't quite remember. Thanks for the pic. Beautiful!

Hey Straykat, isn't this Bob Wheeler's old truck? How about that dash and the crazy one off custom steering wheel? I never got to meet Bob, but he was probably the best teardrop knob maker in the world.

He passed away July 31, 2005 just after the Leadsleds that year. When I talked to Gary Glasgow about Bob's passing at the '06 Leadsled, I told Gary how impressed I was with Bob's teardrop knobs. Earlier in '05, I ordered a pair of large white and green teardrop knobs to run on the spotlights on my old, off-topic, leadsled '79 Chevy truck. Gary remembered the knobs and asked if I was Ed from Edgewater, Colorado, and I told him I was. He went on to tell me that not many people ordered the large teardrop knobs for spotlights nowadays, so when somebody ordered some, they made them and then shipped them out. They didn't keep many in stock. He told me that the pair of large teardrops Bob made for my truck were the last ones Bob did before he passed away.
I still have those knobs mounted on some spotlight handles, and they will go on another sled of mine in the not too distant future.
Bob left us way too soon. He is missed..........E

  16. I didn't even recognize it as the same car. I remember it in white as well...had orange fogging along the bottom. Wasn't it in Hot Rod magazine or something? No matter, I remember seeing it and just loving the socks off it. That car was one of the many that sat in my teen age mind as I was reading Pat Ganahl's editorials and articles when he was HR editor always asking (nearly pleading) why aren't folks building nice mild customs for daily drivers. I just dreamed and dreamed of the day that would be me, getting a 50's or 60's car just as Pat always suggested and having me a mild custom. I did get the car and it was my daily driver, now if I could only get it finished.....it's ONLY been 32 years and counting. LOL

  17. That's pretty cool! How about some pics of the knobs? I'd LOVE to see them!

  18. Your wish is my command, Doc. They were kinda hard to take pictures of since they are white. The pictures don't do them justice. Bob got the teardrop shape perfect. I've made knobs before and getting the teardrop shape even and cleanly layered takes a lot of practice.
Bob must have been making them for a very long time. A true craftsman! E
