^^ that was a mistake. Cant figure out how to delete on the mobile app... Anyways, the build is looking good! Maybe ill fit in this one a little better to drive it[emoji19]
nothing new on the buick..........doing drainage and prepping the driveway for pavement......hopefully will get to it this weekend.
well, i went looking for a nail head motor and heard about a collection that was being sold off. i was told of three cars to choose from..........i am still trying to choose. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/which-car-would-you-have-saved.1076730/
Nice !! Is this out of the 57 you have (had), do you still have the Roadmaster ? I have a 58 - 364 that's got a three speed set up on it. I have started the tear down on the 61 - 364 that i want to rebuild and maybe put it in my 30 Buick coupe.
i sold the Roadmaster to a guy with a '57 century, who is going to put all the Roadmaster stuff in his car and since he is using a later motor, we negotiated his old motor in the deal. so with the horse trading and money i am into the running, removed and delivered nail head for a few hundred. win win for both of us. he ends up with power seats, windows and all the fancy trim and got rid of a motor he didn't want.
Nice when the plan works out for both parties. I can now stop thinking about the 57. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
what radiator are you using in your '30? i ask because my '31 came with a brand new br*** works radiator, new in box, and it will not work with the channeled grill shell. i thought about trying to make it work but i may just sell it and buy another style.
I haven’t found one yet. Some where on the Buick club site there was a thread on what a few people were using on theirs but I can’t find it again. The one I have has cracked tanks that I’m going to try and fix. There is one for sale on ebay in Ohio. It’s for a 1930 40 series. My coupe came from his place. He has taken offers from me in the past on stuff he has listed. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
tried to start the motor. good spark, good fuel, timing right on, plugs looked good. motor spun slow but did not really sound like it wanted to start. pulled the plugs and checked the compression. driver side front to back: 45, 65, 65, 95psi p***enger side front to back: 15, 15, 45, 75psi. time to pull it apart. had what we refer to as a "guy night" event today. shop is open, grill is on, coolers are full. bring a project and or food/drink. a dozen guys showed up and we accomplished a bunch of projects including getting the motor on the stand and ripping it apart.......i hope one of us remembers how it goes back together.....
i did not realize that these are an interference motor. domed pistons stick out of the bore by half an inch.
why is that? we were trying to figure out why? did the front cylinders run lean? exhaust manifold dump out the rear on that side, was there too much back pressure? Dave Lewis [in the gray hoody] has been building engines for over 40 years didn't have an answer. he worked in tonawanda building 327 on the ***embly line and wrote "the small block chevy interchange manual" but this was the first time he had tore one of these apart .
