I have a 31 PU that has the wood missing in the narrow type bed. I really don't feel like paying $200 for wood from Snyders. Does anybody out there have the dimensions of how it was cut? Thanks A
you should be able to figure it out by the holes in the bed for the bolts to hold down the strips. there is just enough room to get the 1/4" carriage bolts between them. the wood has a groove on the edge for the metal strips to sit in , but i don't think you need them. the outer edge of the outside boards slides under the lip of the bed sides , then some short carriage bolts. there will be holes in the cross channels too. in areas that do not overlap any metal there is a big washer on the underside of the carriage bolt hope this makes sense
I usually just measure the width and divide by the number of boards I intend on using. A good (real) lumberyard will cut you the size you want with the available type you choose. I dont cut the offset in mine. I just cut them square and **** them up tight. They will shrink. The Stainless or steel runners look just fine like this. get the ttpe of runner without the holes and use stainless screws to attach the whole ***embly to the supports under the bed.. By doing it this way, you wont have to align anything. Just drill your holes where you choose and run a heavy metal screw right into it. you can see how the wood meets one another on the picture.
You might look into using apitong wood . It has been used for truck beds since forever . It looks and lasts like teak but is much cheaper . You can buy it already milled for truck beds . There is a company called Truck Dex that sells it for beds but most wood companies will have it . If you use it wear a mask when cutting . The stuff is like tear gas
A shop in our area let me measure the boards in one of their Model A bed kits. I then milled my own out of an Indonesian wood called Purple Heart. The stuff is good looking, bullet proof and cheap. I discovered if you seal it with clear lacquer, it retains its color. If you don't, it turns gray like Doug Fir. By cruzpch
