I just swapped a crown vic front suspension in my 1954 F100 Pickup and now I'm looking to upgrade my wheels / tires. My rims will now be 5x4.5 bolt pattern (I'll drill my 9" rear to match bolt pattern) and I'll also need to upgrade to at least 16" or 17" diameter. The front end dropped about 3" after the swap and look nice. I'll need about 4" backspace which is no problem. Wheel Size I'm looking at: 16" or 17" diameter | 7" wide front and 8" wide rear. Tire Size: Still researching, trying to determine what looks good. 28" height overall ?? Questions: Does anyone have pictures of 53-56 F100 with 16" - 17" rims I can look at for ideas ? Thanks Mike
my f100 has 16" wheels, look at a thread called my friend bruces new shop truck has 550 and700 bias plys on 16x4.5 48 ford wheels
Very Nice truck - quality work ! How does it drive with the vintage / stock / skinny tires at today's highway speed ? Thanks
the truck drives nice and goes along at freeway speeds just fine I had a F-100 with a Chevelle subframe in it back in the 80's this time I wanted to keep it more old timey although a 53 is'nt very old plus, I' ve seen the crown Vic deal, and it looks easy to install, but it also looks much too wide for an F 100 I'm sure you'lle get er figured out
Any photos of your truck? That will go a long way in helpful my us recommend a wheel/tire combo. Any reason for the larger wheel sizes? Clearing big brakes?
Here's a pic from last month with the original straight axle. I have since swapped in the crown vic front suspension (not too wide, perfect width). The front end dropped about 3" from the pictures below. - With a 4"-6" offset, the front wheels will fit nice. - The larger wheels are required to fit over the front disc brake calipers. 16" is good enough. I may need to notch the rear frame so I can flip the rear end (spring under axle) just to make it level. I was just looking for a few pictures on google images to see the wheel / tire fitment and stance to see what I like and what looks good. I know the "stock" rear fenders are kinda small but I can live with them until I upgrade them later. Thanks Mike
