This anybody running as set of 2-2 1/2" drop (spindles, upright, or whatever they call them) and cut coil springs? I'm getting ready to install some of the uprights on my 51 Chevy 2dr. Duluxe and I already have cut coils. How low do you think I'm going to go?
If you haven't dis***embled the frontend already, take a look at the distance from one compressed coil to the next. Also look at how much clearance you have between the lower A-arms and the bump-stops. I installed a set of Heidt's 2" dropped spindles on my '55 Chevy, then brought it down even more by cutting the coils with a cut-off wheel (never use heat!)... With the first set of coil springs, I made the mistake of starting out by removing two complete wraps, which was way too much. The lower A-arms rode on the bump-stops-- the front suspension was essentially solid. I then got another pair of coil springs and "snuck up" on the best ride height by cutting a half-wrap at a time, then installing them and checking the profile. As it turned out, 1.5 coils was the lowest I could get, while still retaining some semblance of a ride. It brought the front end down an additional ~2", for a total of ~4". Be sure to get the front end realigned after dropping the car. Hope this helps.
