Any help on tuning? I am used to Holleys and dont know much about these. I have misplaced the paperwork for tuning and need some help. Thanks. Crash.

  2. they are simple to work on , but i sugest you get a manual for it..i have an extra that i could mail you. you can also download one from their website.

the 1406 is calibrated for economy and can be a little lean. edelbrock has a recalibration kit # 1487. you can also get it at Napa , part # BK7353744...about $45 and it doesn't come with any instructions , the reason i sugested getting the manual...how to use the recalibration kit is in it

the good new is if you feel you need to richen it up that can be done very easy. the first couple steps can be done with metering rods only..no need to tear the carb apart

if you are having a part-throttle stumble , that can sometimes be fixed with a change of step-up springs..they are in the kit too

    good luck

I find this to be a very user-friendly carburetor.
I usually just bolt it on- and plug a vacuum gauge onto the engine and then adjust the two mixture screws upfront until I've obtained the highest level of vacuum. I work back and forth going from one screw to the other until I get the highest reading. Then I set the idle speed to where it needs to be.
Those are the very basic adjustments and all I've ever had to do to one.

You didnt mention what you bolted it on. They are heat sensitive. The Edelbrock carb should be up on a spacer to help insulate it. Mine is on a four hole two inch tall spacer.

I personally prefer Holleys, but I do have a 1406 on my Stude...tuning can be expensive if you don't hit it right on the first couple of tries, but for sea level, it's typically pretty close out of the box - just like the Holley...

I put one on my Chevy 250 bolted to an offenhauser manifold. I played around with it and put in the 6755 rods from the performance kit 1487 to lean it out a bit more (4% per the manual's graphing chart). Runs great. My question is what kind of results have people seen using the other rods and/or jets? One more bit of advise from a beginner. I ran it for a couple of months with the (delco hei distributor) vacuum advance hooked to the wrong port. Ran okey under load but starting, idling and switching off were rough. Once I tried swapping vacuum around from partial to full it totally improved and runs perfectly.
