Chopped my 28 sedan before the chop I had it all shimmed so the doors lined up once I did my 4 inch chop the doors are out of wacky now any reasons why I attatched some pictures let me know what you guys think
Much more bracing inside the body would have maintained alignment..looks like the cowl moved on ya...the welds at the front are way off.
It looks like when you welded the door's top back to the door's bottom, you welded it perfectly straight instead of matching the curvature of the body. Try this: 1) Run a rod through *all three* door hinges to ensure they're all aligned. 2) Remove the rod and install the door on the body and insert all three hinge pins. 3) Cut the door top off the bottom, leaving all three hinges installed. 4) C-clamp the door top against the body and reweld the top and bottom together. Here's a thread I did when I chopped my '28 sedan. Lots of pictures: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/tudor-update-angle-chopping-a-28-ford.377233/ Hope this helps.
Yes you need to brace the **** out of them BEFORE you cut them. They will move all around on you if you dont. Making just a situation you have on your hands now. The good news is you just have to figure out what needs moved back, re cut and re weld.
It's just like a house. Get the door square to the rocker panel (bottom door gap) you may have to cut the weld over the B pillar and pull the top of the cowel forward to get your gap. Then you can adjust the rest to line up. Houses are built from the ground up not from the roof down cars are built the same way. Once the door is square to the cowel and parallel to rocker you can move the rest to lign up. Back away from you car 15-20 feet and look at the side profile start from the BOTTOM and work your way up. I seen this happen in body shops all the time. You get too close and you can't see the solution. Like you can't see the forest for all the trees. Just take your time and follow my lead and it will all line up.Each time you get some squared up step way back and get so you can see the whole side of the car. Get a stool and a cold drink sit down and just look at it and study and you will see what I mean. I done the same thing fought a Honda 4 door hit in the side all day could not get anywhere, went to take a piss and when I walked back I could see it from 20 feet away, squared everything to rocker and it all fell in place. P M me if you have any questions. I done body work over 60 years and learned how to get out of a lot of traps like this. Once you get part of it lined up you can put some braces in. Remember when you weld the roof back together over the B pillar it going to shrink about 1/8 of a inch so leave a little gap or add some metal. Let me know how it goes. Frank
