Just finished my bead rolling cl*** .,mostly art , and learned a lot . We built bomber seats and it was great . Got to play with a power hammer and can see one in my future . The cl*** had only 10 students and 5 rollers for us to use . This lady had never used one and after 2 days she was knocking it . Watch out guys . Leaving for BG and hot rod reunion in morn . Blue

If you have never seen JJ bead rolling you are in for a surprise. I learned a lot . There was a guy with a nice old SW and I loved the door panels and trim in his trailer were spot on as was the whole rig , a very talented guy. Gives me some visions for something for the COE .
Will be at the drags for the rest of the week then when I get home I'll lock myself in the shop and will be get back to OT topics. Blue

Just came in for lunch , been in shop since 6 am . Working on getting metal ready to prime . Lots of cracks and rust cancer to repair .
    image.jpeg Before
    image.jpeg
Patch welded in but will take it off and work it smother. A sample of other work left .
    image.jpeg
Holes , gap on two panels should be tight and were spot welded together. Both sides .
    image.jpeg
    image.jpeg
    image.jpeg
And need to roll out two door panels .
    image.jpeg
Both fenders need lots of work and will be molding in these later model headlights .

    image.jpeg
Hope to have everything smothered and primed by end of July. Latter , Blue .

In 1942 they made these body's out of true 18 ga. formed sheet metal . My sm gauge is a tight fit at 18 . My truck was hit hard on the right front , tearing the fender into 5 or 6 pieces. They did a fair job in the fix . AO welding it back together and beating out a few dents where the tire would rub but not the top .
Ive been beating on it for a while and getting close to original. The body work was done in lead .
I've also been roughing in a iner fender well out of the OE . to fit the new ch***is. A little more fitting and welding it will be ready to mount and do my final fit and finish.
    image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg
All the black lines are weld where the fender was put back together. This along with the 18 ga makes for sore wrist after a day with a hammer and dolly .

Cab corners were welded to the lower valance of the middle step cover and bolted in to body on sides as well to fender ? What a thunder f#%}~*k that was . I worked on the right side today and got fender to mount up pretty nice . I still have to rebuild the cab corners and see if that area has been pushed back . Started playing with the headlights and decided where to place them . They are roughed in but not final till I get other fender on to put a straight edge across them . Will roll some patch panels for fender and fill all the holes . The headlights will get aligned then I will trim to be flat against the fender with a ring welded in to bolt on with a gasket . Also tried the turn signal on top of fender . Need input on them . Please make any suggestions. Blue

New Cab corners were welded to the lower valance of the middle step cover and bolted in to body on sides as well to fender ?
Mine had one bolt and spot welds, kinda thinking they ran the one bolt in to hold the apron on while they secured it with the spot welds. Mine did not bolt to the front fender though.
Are the inner fender panels symmetrical? I only have one side and its looking like I might have to make one when I get to it.
That is a kewl turn signal, but I think just a little older era than a Rocket Age custom theme you have going on. How about a 62 Imperial taillight with the lens cast in yellow...Just a picture that came into my head after I read your post...might not look right, first thought.
Gonna have to make some door patches for mine also.

The iner wells are the same except for steering box area .
I've got so many holes in my door skins as well as the rust , it would be easier to make a new skin . As soon as I get sm delivered I will roll out two new skins and make my door gap fit at same time . Rolled out two patches for the headlight holes today . 62 Imperial ? Don't know what I'm going to do yet . Blue

Hey Gentry , witch fender well are you missing . I am going to cut the front part of the drivers side out to miss the new steering box and if that is the side you need with this part you could just copy the rest from the other side . Let me know if you need it . Blue

    Thanks Blue,
I don't need that part as I have a monster of a power steering system going in. But as I didn't have the other side was wondering/hoping they were symmetrical.
    Thanks Again!

Finished up my inner fender wells. Finished off welding up all the holes in the fenders and patching up the old headlight holes . Started trying to close up my door gaps . Seems like the bottom of the jams in the rear got bent back . The channels had some bows and ripples in them . Since I'm redoing the cab corners,I cut some off and drove them up some . Moved about eighth of an inch . Need to go .100 more to be straight . Also rolled out two door panels this week while I had a friend here to help . Hard to do by your self ! I will not put new skins on until I get the jams as good as I can without changing the contures. I can fudge a little on skins if need be . Blue

    HiYa Blue,
Went to go look at a heater today, guy had lots of hot rods and rusty tin. Told him about my cabover he had 2 that he made into one ...do you have a bumper...lets see he says, I think I do. It is the one you want late 1945/46. did not pull it out of the rack, he said 60.00, told him I would ask, might be had for less depending on straightness. Took a picture, got home to post it can't find it...must have deleted going into pocket. His friend has a cab that he is checking on for me, so a chance I will be back there...its 2 hrs away

Today I finished building and welding up the cab corners. Needs a little hammer work and lead .
    image.jpeg image.jpeg
Need some help on deciding of how to mount light out this far with extended sides or cut down to fit . Do you think this will put parking light too close to fender . Give me your thoughts .
    image.jpeg image.jpeg
    Thanks , Blue .

if your going to run a front bumper could you run some lights in or on that to get them out wide? kinda a shame to run lights on those fenders, might detract from the overall look a little….

Headlights on or in bumper would be to low for a Texas truck , but a good idea lexcoe .
Started roughing in headlights today . There was a 1.60 of an inch difference between the bottom of the light and fender . I slit the bucket at the bottom almost all the way around and pulled the base plate down to the fender . Then I welded some locators between the two on the side . To keep the contour straight I will need to shorten the bottom of the plate a little to blend in the two . When I mount the lights I will use some fender welt under the light for padding as well as a nice finish . Need to check and see if I can get some red welt that matches my paint although black would be fine . Will finish the light tomorrow. Something that was weird was the guild stam on one bucket but not the other . Blue
