I never actually measured just making a logical observation based on conjecture. A lot of the old timers didn't figure the spark to be wasted they said that it cleaned out the unburnt gas. Were they right or wrong? Doesn't really matter it was just what they thought. My old rat still runs dual fire, I scratched my head when I bought the new coil. Someone changed it to crane ignition and had the single fire option, but they went with the dual fire control mod anyway. It works fine, always worked on anything that I ever owned, but it still seems odd to me. Most people would consider the single fire to be an update.
Dual point distributors were conceived to have the leading set close the circuit to the SINGLE COIL and the trailing set open the circuit to collapse the electrical field creating a hotter spark due to the longer saturation time or dwell than what could be obtained with a single point set.
