My rear main bearing cap has a fine threaded hole in center about 3/8" diameter. There is no plug in it...any idea what its for. Thanks Ron
I feel like it's been talked about recently, maybe some sort of return line. It's pretty vauge in my Mind right now so the best I can do is bump this to the top and see if someone else knows
I think it is a drain for the labyrinth seal. Should be a short tube that screws into it at an angle.
53 has it. Drain. From what I have heard, it is important that the drain reach below oil level, or the oil storm around the crank will exit through it and overwhelm the labyrinth.
Why don't you just go over there yourself if you like them so much. The HAMB has as much if not more flathead info as any place in the world. On the HAMB the flathead is a *belly ****on motor. *I say that grinning. No offense intended. Bruce and @53 ford have it correct, there is a drain tube and the crank stirs things enough that you want it well below the full mark. Its been a while since I have been inside a 21 stud, but it seems like the stock tube sits about *half an inch below full, so if you are making your own that is what you are probably shooting at. *maybe an old guy told me that number once and is not exactly like Ford did it.
