I have a 1932 generator with 12 volt field coils. Can I use a three terminal regulator with it with negative ground? I need to run a generator mounted fan. If not has anyone adapted that 32 fan hub to a different Ford generator? Does anyone know of a good louver press sh op in Texas between Lubbock and McAllen or Lubbock and Albuquerque? Thanks, Glynn.

Unfortunately No.....you have a 3 brush generator whose output is controlled by the moveable third brush. Only a cutout is required, and preferably a solid state(diode type), as the quality of contact style aftermarket replacements are typically poor.

Oh...and polarity does not matter with this system, so no other changes need to be made(except reversing input and output on the ammeter.....

Thanks EG I'm not sure if I'll try to move to the later gen maybe early 40's with 2 posts and use the fan hub on it. Can my field coils be moved to it? Glynn.

On my '32 I use a '32 fan, '40 front mount, '40-'48 housing, and 12v field coils, rear cover and armature from a '60 generator. I used to use a '38-ish fan-mount pulley with the ID bored to fit on the later 12v armature, but that subsequently cracked around the bore. I then found a pulley on a large Ford generator with the proper ID and the fan mount on the front. It fit perfectly, and I have no idea what it originally came off of. Maybe a fire truck or ambulance?

    Good luck in your search.

Thanks Alchemy, I think I have most of the pieces, 60 something gen, a pair of 32 hubs and fans, a gen for crank mounted fan, and an 8BA type gen. I'll do some mixing and come up with a winner. My gen shop says I need to find a way to use a 12 volt armature to get the amps I need. Thanks again for your help. Glynn.
