Technical 1940 pontiac deluxe

I have a pontiac deluxe with a firebird 350ci/th400 stock rear and my rpms screaming at 45 50mph im pretty sure my rear is 4:11 does anyone know where or if i can get a lower ration ring and pinion i have a 700r4 trans im gonna put it but also wanna get a lower rear ratio. Any help or suggestions will help thanks

what kind of rearend? stock? for most 700Ra set up 3:73 works good.

 

You need a taller rear gear (lower numerically )
Are you sure you are getting 4th gear.
Perhaps you need to fit a rev counter to verify shift points.

 

If you are going to put in a 700R4, be aware that you'll need an adapter plate to bolt it to the Pontiac engine.

 

I already bought a bop adaptor plate and a torque converter lockout kit as well and a lokar shifter conversation kit i just havent had the time to swap out the trans yet. I still wanted to change the gears in the rear also so i could cruise and 65 with zero worrys lol

Junkyards should be full of old firebird rear ends.

 

I didnt but the 700r4 in yet i wanted to see if i could change the ring and pinion to something in the 3s so i could cruise comfortable on the highway and not at 45 50 in the slow lane
