I have searched here 'till I am blue in the face and can't find any reference to what bearings are used for the complete 58 Buick front brake conversion using round back spindles.(58 backing plates, adapters, round back spindles, 58 hubs and 45 fin drums) I have the backing plates and the adapters at the machinist so while waiting thought I would get on to the bearing deal. Perhaps there is another spindle adapter needed? Anyone have recollection of what was done back in the day for this complete swap? When I get this done I am going to do a tech on it so it will be available in the future.
I have done a few. Last set we used 42-48 ford outer style hubs on the buick drums. Don't know if it can be done using the buick hubs.
There is at least one tech on hamb on using the Buick hubs, and there was a member making the bearing adapter sleeves on CNC lathe. I think the ***le was something like "buick drums why not use the hubs" ? I don't trust my memory though. .
I guess it all depends on what wheel bolt pattern you are using. If you are going to run 40 ford style 5 on 5.5 wheels the buick bearing conversion wont work very well. 40 ford style wheels need to be supported with a flange larger in diameter than the buick drum has. That is why I prefer to use the outer stlye ford hub as it supports those wheels properly. If you are going to run stock 5 on 5 buick wheels or going to a smaller pattern the bearing adapter rat29 sells will work.
