Technical Attaching stainless window trim

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by juuraslahti, Jul 27, 2016.

  1. For my 62 I need to install the top windshield stainless trim. It is a slightly curved piece so it is under stress to stay in position. What adhesive should i use to install the top piece and so the side window trim holds it down. The side pieces have one screw at the bottom. So it needs adhesive to hold itself and the top trim piece in place.

    Any suggestions

  3. Ok thanks, i was just wondering if there was a quick and dirty, semi permanent solution i could use, without removing the window. Something that held, but also could be removed when it comes time to paint car again.

I'm sure there is, but I don't do things that way, so I don't know what it is.

    Word...
The dummied up trim installations are the main cause of window channel rot. If water has no place to go.. there will be rust.

He demonstrates how to push the new clips under the rubber with "door trim installation tool" from auto parts store. You don't need to remove windshield, but you will need to get the right clips.

It has been several years since I worked on a 62, however this is what I would suggest to start with, take a plastic stick (slim and not to wide) and slide it along the gap between the windshield rubber and the body to see if you can find any of the metal studs that the factory used to hold the garnish moldings in place. If you can locate them then you can install the new clips without removing the gl***, if not it is very, very trick to install a clip (special) that has a screw that attaches to the body. C.R. Lawrence out of Atlanta did carry them at one time. The tricky part is putting the clip/screw into the body without breaking the gl***. Let me know if you can not find the clips as I think I still have a catalog that shows them.

Those ones didn't use studs, the clips fit over the lip. before the gl*** is installed.

    Studs were a later invention
