23 cars were imported from Sweden for the trip along Route 66. Here are some of the cars.

They drove in at 0-dark 30 to get good spots all together. Talked to few and welcomed them to the Huntington Beach weather. I'm 1/2 Swede (an Olson) and felt it was my duty..

They were all parked in front of Zubies. The photos show they were there long after the regulars went home. One thing they missed was Jacks Garage which Ed China did not. Maybe it was for the good. Big Jack is Norwegen...and you know how they feel about the Swedes:D

There were other cars and trucks at DD. This was a typical morning. Not bad to start the day.

  9. We have now finnish the Route 66 tour. Has wisited a lot of cool places. We was to Town center of Tulsa to se were the 57 Plymith was buried but there was not a sing or anything at the Place. Then we wisited the Route 66 museum in Elk City, that was a cool Place. Saw som old cars after the way to Amarillo Texas. Even saw a Conoco gas station with a funny Tower on the roof. On the way to Tu***cari we p***ed the half way cafe and Russels Museum on a gas station. In Tu***cari we salibrated 4th of July with a barbeque and some beers.

I'm glad that you enjoyed your drive across our great country. Where was that junkyard full of Edsels at?

That "junkyard I believe is in Shamrock Tx, just down the road from the famous Connoco gas Station he mentioned. There is an old repair shop across the street, and I suspect they are the same owner.
To find it, if you go east on the street that the gas station is on, towards I40 eastbound, it's about a mile down. If you need info, check with Bob Owens. His salvage yard is about an hour south from that corner gas station...he may know the owners.
Sure wish the op had posted more info prior to his trip...I live just a block off the old historic rt 66 district in Amarillo, would have loved to see the cars. Am I reading the post correctly...it wasn't just the 58 Chev, but a group of 30ish cars all doing the rt 66 thing at the same time?

When they were at Donut Derelicts in California, I was told the number of cars imported was 23 (IIRC), and 2 more were bought while traveling across America. I believe most of the cars will be shipped back to Sweden, but from different ports across America.

  13. July 5 we left Tu***cari but took a tour in Town and saw som old gas stations and Motels. Soon one of the cars had problem, it had stop earlyer but now it was definitiy. The owner had cleaned the tank and put a tank sealer in it. It seems like the sealer had com loose and plugged the fuel line. We had to fix another tank but that is not that easy for a -53 olds. Maneged to find a used fuel cell and put it in the trunk and hook it up to the fuelline. Problem fixed. Found it at Bozos in Santa Rosa. When we got close to the hotel in Albuquerque suddenlu a car hit a redlight and come up right in front of me, I hit the brakes and looked the Wheels for at least 35 foot and maiged to miss the car but I Think there was not Place for a dollar bill between the cars. I was chocked and had to stop and calm down for 5 minutes Before Icould go on to the hotel. Next day we Went to Gallup, saw some old cars after the road. At night we had a barbeque at the parking lot. One of the swedes Went to the gas station to buy som beers. When he was first in line the gas station was robbed under gunpoint. He was hold by the polis for questioning an hour befor he came back. He was more calm then the rest of the group.

When you folks (3 cars) were in Bennington, Vt I was the one that got the call about needing a set of points for the Olds. Briefly met some of you in the parking lot at a service center in town but you all were anxious to get on down the road where you were going to look for a set of points. Where did you find the points?
Looks like you are having a trip of memories for sure.

It sounds like you hit a couple of bumps in the road in New Mexico but made it through OK. How are you going to get your cars back to Sweden since you're on the wrong side of the country now? Thanks for the pics....

  16. Yes he got Points and the car was ok after that. Thanks

Ha...sounds like I missed you twice. On July 4th I did a great car show in Santa Fe with my '57, and drove back home to Amarillo that afternoon/evening. Had I taken the business loop thru Tucamcari instead of just staying on I40, I would have seen your group.

  24. July 7 We went to Holbrook Arizona, drove trough Petrified Forrest National park, Amazing Place. Also Went and looked at WigWam Motel, same family owners since the 4o´s. Next day was planned a short trip to Flagstaff but we took a extra swing down to Phoenix and the Desert Valley Auto Parts. I found some parts for my -70Challenger. In Flagstaff we had a extra day so I lookt over the car. A front shock had broke and a front swaybar mount hade broke on the not so good parts on the old Route66 roads. Had lunch at Galaxie Diner, a 50s Place. Next leg was to Las Vegas, the longest trip on our tour. Stayed at Seligman, Hackberry General Store and Hoover Dam, nice places. Hoover Dam was a lot lower then I remember it. We checked in at the Stratosphere hotel. There was 3 nights in Vegas. Was to a Cadillac Place that was in to 40s and 50s Caddys. They had a lot of parts. Visited the Shelby plant to. Got a tour with Caroll Shelbys history and got to see some nice cars.

  25. 13 July. Today we left Las Vegas to go to Lake Havasu. Nice nature as we going in the desert, came to a steep uphill before we came to an old minetown called Oatman. Stayed there and saw a cowboy show and looked in the shops. Left for Lake Havasu in the heat, but both we and the car made it there. Saw 2 -58 Chevys for sale at a Place that sold both boats and Cl***ic cars. In lake Havasu they have rebuilt the London Bridge that was sold in London 1967 and shipped over to USA. Next day we left for Victorville, we left early to beat some of the heat. Stopped at Roy´s diner in Amboy to take a Group Picture with most of the European cars. Then we stopped at the original "Bagdad Café"before going to Victorville. Next day was the day to come to the finish line but first we visited a Route 66 museum in Victorville and the we went to the first ever McDonalds i San Bernadino. It opened in 1940 as a barbeque drive in and started with hamburgers 1948. It became McDonalds 1953. Then we vent to the Finish in Santa Monica Pier and had some Pictures taken. I had bought a license plate that says that the car hade made the trip and I had to put that on. Next day we had a finish banquet in Hntington beach. That was the Route 66 trip but our car will contniue our dream tour to Florida.
