This popped up for sale locally for $19,000. Way more than I can afford but it has got to be a really rare car!! Owner claims it has some movie history too. Cool car though!!

  3. The '32 Es*** Terraplane is owned by Roy Marks. His father founded the Hudson-Es***-Terraplane club back in 1959. This is the only '32 ever known to exist. One '33 ET touring exists is Australia. About a dozen '34 tourings were built by two body companies in Aussie but NONE in the US.

Attaching a pic of the '34 Ruskins bodied tourer I brought in from Melbourne, Australia to the US back in 1987 when it was white. With new owners it is now restored in tan body - you might see it at a show somewhere.

I painted this roadster at a local show back in May. Not sure if it's T.J.Richards, Holden or Ruskin bodied.
    Dandy bus, fast too.

You know its interesting where ideas for hotrods come from or is it the other way around but the louvers in the side panels on that look like custom hotrod louvers. I am no historian...perhaps this style of louver is from the birth of the automobile. Yeah Hudson had some wild styling back then and for that matter all the years they survived. That was a nice clean solid tub for sure.

you think 34 terra phaetons are rare! my mate has a 34 Hudson eight phaeton ,we fixed her up 25 years ago from junk parts I remember our first drive like it was yesterday two crazy young men got this monster going ,on one of our test drives the speedo had a heart attack and died at 100mph . when I drive it I'm 25 years old again

I have just looked through my Hudson book, The Cars That Hudson Built, by John A. Conde.
No mention of any 34 Phaetons, so this is pretty cool.
Hudson had a plant in England too, and there's probably more than one body style exclusive to there.

Here's what Johns book says about the 32 Phaeton. ^^^

34 tubs of any kind are one of the best looking cars ever built in my opinion ,it was a time when even a lowly chev looked good ,if anyone would like to see my mate 34 Hudson search The Untouchables Weeding Cars tasmania

  24. Here ya go. Very nice, check the hood louvers out. 1934hudsoneight1.jpg

Kiwi if this is reference to what I mentioned this is not what I was saying. Those are more like doors/flaps on the car you posted. On original post car and restored pic they are very similar to what we see on say...The California Kid...Yes they are wider but profile wise very similar. This is what I am referring to. Most cars of that time as in Fords for example had full side hood louvers. When did that type of custom louvering come about on Hotrods and where did the idea or influence come from? It just made me think...a little. Thanks

  26. @Stogy, I got where you were going with your louver post, and realise that the ones I posted are more flaps, I thought they were neat, but if I had to choose, I'd take the Hot Rod style ones any day.

OT, I wonder if there's ever been a thread about early car lovuers?

yep that's the car not bad for a couple of 25 year old blokes with a oxy acet set and a small box of tools ,and a huge box of determination if I do say so myself

It appears touring cars were popular in Australia long after they were replaced by sedans in the US. Wonder why that is? Were tourings considered cooler in hot weather? Were they often used with the top down?
