My Uncle's '40 Sedan with all of the front end accessories he could put on it.

 

I know it's not auto related but, I'm a big fan of nose art. The Delectable Doris and two others from WW2. I'm sure some of the guys who were on these flight crews came home and went on to be hot-rodders.

 

$40 did you forget a zero...heck I would have went and felt the fellows forehead to see if he was feeling faint or something. Dayam that was a deal...quite the looker too even today...

 

Thanks @Ryan! Grandpa died before I was born, but everything I've ever heard from those that knew him was that he was always quite a character and always a sharp dresser. As a kid I used to flip through these photos and imagine what he was like, wishing I would've known him. All these photos were taken around Phoenix. I'd love to know what church that is behind him and the '36.

A few of my favorites...

My grandparents with a couple of their cars in the background.

My grandma drove the 40 Ford by herself from Illinois to D.C. to visit my grandpa on leave before they were even married.

My grandma standing by their fairly new 55 Ford.


And, me standing by a customized, then crashed 65 Vette my dad had just bought to put back together.

 

I had the fire chief model with a little bell. Those things were hard to pedal in the dirt and grass. About the time I was strong enough to do it my knees were hitting the top inside. Brings back lots of good memories.

 

My dad was an MP in the Army in 1946 stationed in Washington, D.C. Note the Pentagon in the background....

Ran the towns only gas station and was the policeman there I heard.

Dad's '58 DeSoto. Westminster, California 1966. The car had black Tuck & Roll and ran Astros W/Inglewood Cheater Slicks. One morning my Dad came out to go to work and the big rock at the end of his driveway with the address painted on it was stuck under the front of the car.............the Astros on the front were missing.

 

Dad's '54. The truck had Radirs on the back and his old club plaque can be seen below the rear window. I still have the plaque.

 

Westminster, California 1970. This was my Dad's Fastback that he traded to my Grandpa for a '63 Comet. The Comet was then used as a trade in for Dad's '67 Shelby GT 350.

Dad's '48 Chevy pickup. He paid $300 bucks for it in 1971. He ended up trading it for a roll away tool box/tools.

 

The sing should have read "OPALINE"...

 

The sign says Opaline which was a brand of motor oil made by Sinclair.

Here are a couple of my Dad, and his '60 Starliner, bought new in '61. 352 V-8 and an automatic. Set the class record in B/X at Mel Larson's with a top speed of 97 miles per hour. But an ET of only 18.70!

Dad was a bit of a bad ass....check out the tattoo and the hangman's noose on the rearview mirror.
