There isn't any hot rod black out there that is true flat. Flat black looks too gray for the automotive industry. Most all hot rod blacks are satin or eggshell. Sent from my SM-N920V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I used John Deere "Blitze Black" tractor paint. May not be what you want. But better then primer for a "finished" paint job.
I highly recommend summit, hot rod black satin, it's urethane, an can be painted later, used it on a car that has sat outside for over a yr., with no fade/chalky-ness... An relatively cheap...
I recently had a neighbor to acquire a off topic (here) early 80s square body chevy 4x4 truck that was red and looked great even though the paint was only a little less than completely perfect, I saw it the other day and it almost made me sick to my stomach as he had painted or primered it flat black. My point is, I have seen decent looking vehicles go to worse with the flat or satin black treatment. I have done a couple myself but they were beyond any other kind of help short of a complete nice paint job. A nice black satin job works for some cars but I always feel that makes them fall short of what they could be, I personally like some nice patina better than the black satin or flat, usually.
Just curious how you have verified it has not faded? Did you spray a secondary piece of metal that is not exposed to the elements, then compare to the vehicle side by side after 1 year? Or does it just look like it hasn't faded? Not trying to be a smart ***, just curious about my compe***ion. Sent from my SM-N920V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
[QUOTanswer your?, no I didn't, but I have been in the business for 35 yrs, And have sprayed enough "satin" black to know, I will try to get a pic today, I flaked the roof in Jan. At his shop, I'll see if I can find that pic. "Paint Guru, post: 11639041, member: 272550"]Just curious how you have verified it has not faded? We're using the John Deere Blitz Black on our OT Chevy truck. Very affordable. Don't forget the hardner. Several things on line about the Blitz Black. Hope to shoot it this weekend if weather permits..... Another driveway paint job....
Saw this on Cincinnati Ohio C-list (6k) and thought of ya, It woud also look good painted a nice (maybe candy) color.
