Hi - - - Need to replace stock harmonic balancer on my 64 Vette. I have noticed that are about 25% lighter than the original. Specifically Powerbond balancers weigh in at approximately 5.0 lbs. The original weighs 6.625 lbs. I would greatly appreciate any comments on what effect this might be expected to have on a street driven, rarely run above 5000 rpm engine. Thanks!!! Geoker

As Jim said, no effect. If the difference bothers you, there is a company in California called Damper Dudes. They will rebuild your old damper. I recently had them restore a very rare 57 Chev 270 hp balancer and they did a super job.

You did not specify the hp rating, but on the higher hp 327's, they had an eight inch balancer that was finned on the inside, and they are quite valuable. As was mentioned above, it may be worth having yours rebuilt.
