green,..what color do you plan to paint your truck?...orig. color?

  5. A color very similar to the original dark green, just a shade or two lighter. I bought a 1:18 scale model of my truck and had the paint shop color match the model. I painted the ashtray and glove box door and am pretty happy with the color. I have a picture somewhere, but it doesn't really capture how it looks in real life.

    Truck's looking good.
Thanks for being a pioneer on the fender. I've looked at those repo steel fenders and thought about pulling the trigger but it's just too much mentally right now. I have gl*** rear fenders and can't get the outer front edge to line up with the curve of the running boards. Does the steel fender match well there?

  9. I haven't tried the running boards yet. The 51-52 fender I had didn't really match up with the boards, but it had also been patched in that area, so I cant really say. I think there was originally some anti-squeak cloth in between those two surfaces. I used some fender welt in between the two and it filled whatever gaps there were. I should also mention my running boards are aftermarket, so those could be off too.

My boards are down in my ba*****t. If I get a chance I'll drag one up and see how it looks.

  11. After long hours of blocking, guide coat, sanding, priming, swearing, and blocking again, I finally have the whole truck in primer

  12. image.jpg Painted the cowl, dash, and driver side door over the weekend using an old Devilbuss from the 50's

  13. image.jpg Cleaned up the radio and painted the knobs and face plate too

  14. I need to shoot a second coat on the door. I mixed up more paint than was needed for the dash so I decided to shoot the door even though it wasn't quite ready. I'm pretty pleased with how it came out.

I keep getting boogies in the paint though. I cleaned the gun and have a filter on the compressor on the tank side. I'm starting to think I need to move the filter to the gun side. I think my cheap Tractor Supply airhose may be deteriorating.

Either way, it's good to be at the paint stage. I thought the bodywork might never end.

  15. Just over a year later...and PAINT. I did it myself, in my one car garage with acrylic enamel. Other than one nasty run on the back of the cab I need to fix, I'm really happy with it.

  18. Go for it @charleyw ! I started with the tailgate and figured if I screwed that up, I'd just quit and get someone else to do it, but that came out good, so I did the bed, then the back fenders, then the rest once I had courage.

Damn looks great! I keep thinking about painting mine but before I can do that there is some adjustment and body work to do and that kills it for me....just having fun driving. Really came out great man, congrats!

I painted my '51 f1 about eleven years ago in a single car garage; changed from white to the factory meadow green. So the sun and snow up here in the mountains of Southern California beat that paint to hell. Presently have the truck in a paint shop in hemet, ca. with little progress. Opted for new bedsides and other body parts. Going to be great truck again when finished. How do I post pics?

On the main page, very bottom, there is a section Ryan did for Tutorials. Posting images is the second one down. It's a lot simpler than the old board.
