Technical Lokar shifters

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by ratty_aussie, Aug 8, 2016.

  1. I bought a 32 inch double bend shifter for my 4l60e ****** and now that it's in I hate it, wayyyy too tall!

Does anyone know if they can be cut down or say a 23 inch double bend neck swapped over?

    Thanks.

Contact Lokar. I bought a used shifter a while back and they fixed what was wrong for free. Then sold me a stick in the length I wanted and installed it.

**Sorry, just noticed you're down under. This might not help you.**

  3. I am down under but I ordered it from summit as it was the cheapest place. Think it cost me over $600 still.

Order the right length stick and inner cable from Lokar. I had to do the same thing in my avatar. Screws right on. Not that pricey really.

  6. Hat bit needs to be welded?

  7. Thanks, summit said it can be done but I'll email lokar.
It's gets pricey with exchange rates and shipping, but it's a small price to pay cause I hate my shifter.

Contact Lokar and I bet they will exchange it. Many years ago I bought a shifter that came with a billet knob, & I wanted a black one. They exchanged it with no problem. This was right when the double bend shifters first came out & I had already bought the single bend. I mentioned that I would have bought the double bend if I had known about it, & they instantly offered to exchange the whole stick as well.

If you contact lokar they will give you a part number and tell you to get jt from summit. I needed a complete hardware kit for mine and they gave me the number and I had it from summit in 3 days for 20 bucks. Really good service.

all lokar handles are interchangeable. just call and get the part number for the one you want.

    Do exactly that!
I called Summit first for a replacement cable and they said no such part existed.
Called Lokar and got the part number and then called Summit back.I gave him the part number and the supposedly non existant part was suddenly in stock.

  12. Thanks everyone, think I've got it sorted. Found a local Lokar stockist that has the one I want but it's missing the box and cable but I can get it half price. Anyone cut the cable down?

Yes have cut one down, and made my own cable from a push bike outer brake cable. Made my own shifter from heavy wall SS and modified the top to allow use of the lokar shift knob push down. Simple cut and grind and thread bottom .

The inner cable that the shifter ****on pushes is the outer jacket of a Lokar parking brake cable, with a special end on the bottom.

Wrap it with masking tape, and cut of the excess on the top with a cutoff disc, or a hacksaw.

Flexdrive up here can make a cable for you.

  17. I'm having a blonde moment. I have undone this nut all the way, well till it stars to get tight again. The neck still won't come off. It does rotate once the nut is loosened. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1470781919.262846.jpg

    Is the arm loose?

  21. Yeah, swings around freely. But no movement up or down, zero in fact.

The rod is threaded into the base, the nut only locks it from rotating. You need to unscrew the whole lever.

The shaft comes out of the top, just as a bolt would. You use the nut to hold the shaft from turning once you get it back together.
