Posting for a friend. He is looking for an adapter to make a modern 5 speed to his aluminum Buick V8. He knows they make one for about $280 that will mate several different models. He's not picky about the transmission, but he is leaning toward a T5.

Anyone have one laying around or know if this price can be beat? OR is there some factory bell that could be used? Did the Buick ever have a factory 4 or 5 speed behind it?

    Thanks,
    Frank

there's a factory bellhousing for a 4 speed behind a 215, should work with a 5 speed that uses the standard older GM bolt pattern and input shaft.

Look for the complete setup out of a Rover 3500 SD1.( same Engine... )
    They had a 5 speed.
I know some SD1's were sold in the states, but most of those were probably Auto boxes...

That motor, the 215, was built in England for many, many years after GM used it and is found in a number of cars that were imported to the US. Rover as mentioned was one and in the late 70's Triumph built a POS called the TR7. They also built a TR8 and this car has the 3.5 litre version of he 215 with a very nice five speed on it.

Yeah what metalshapes said, Rover had both 4 & 5 speed manual trans. This oughta be the way to go...
