am painting some aluminum panels going to use a laquer primer will this work, will it stick to aluminum TKS Butch
usually not recommended unless you spray zinc chromate first. Most of the newer primers are Ok on aluminum.
If you want it to stick.... Prep it first. Typically some sort of trivalent or hex chrome dip/ spray is required. Zinc phosphate also works. But for those of us on a budget. I've had good results the last 10 years using Valspar Direct to Metal two part primer . Covers well with great adhesion , sands nice and doesn't shrink back after time . As a plus you can get it tinted to match what ever topcoat color that you're using .
Lacquer primer will not work. Please provide information about the aluminum. Is it anodized? Do you plan on sanding or just degreasing and topcoating? Do you want the aluminum in a primer? Or a actual topcoat? These questions need to be asked before ANY recommendations are given. Aluminum is a easier metal for paint to stick to because it's softer, however it can corrode very quick. Lacquer primer doesn't bring anything really to the table, it will only provide a mechanical adhesion (by sanding). Sent from my SM-N920V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
