A friend got this tool along with other stuff, and doesn't know what it is. It's about 18" long, the disk part is about 6" diameter. The end appears to be made to pound on. The only markings are "CR & 710".

We're guessing it's to pound in axle bearing races? What do you think? tool side.jpg tool end.jpg

  2. Looks a lot like an old tool at a shop that I worked at years ago to put axle bearing races in big truck axles. 1 ton and up trucks. There were different adapters that you put on the threaded end and then had one guy hold the tool and another beat it in with a small sledge.

Big truck axles are full floaters. No bearings on the rear ends they are in the hub.

Thanks! It doesn't look like we will be using this tool much.

Bingo Bonzo...that's exactly what it is. Used one similar back in the 70s when I was a diesel mechanic. You are also spot on on CR as well = Chicago Rawhide. Years ago they actually made their seals with leather instead of rubber.
