Anyone know anything about a Willys F head 6 cylinder. My father rebuilt it a few years back with nos parts he had in his garage. It runs smooth, but it's got what sound like a rocker out of adjustment. I know the F-head 4 cylinder motors have a lash of 18 thou intake, 16 thou exhaust, but info on the 6's is a bit scarce.

The back story on the car is my grandfather sold it new from his dealership in Penticton, BC in 1950 and my father bought it back from the purchaser in 1956. It's been in our family ever since. My father recently passed away, and it's in my garage now.

I would guess the 6 and 4 have the same valve adjustment.

  4. So that's where the jeepster came from.

Here ya go. They tell me he is "the" guy for Jeeps of that era. If you buy a new replacement part from anybody, chances are he is the guy that had it made.
I do not have any business involvement with him. He is a friend of a friend.

Your grandfather owned the dealership, your father owned the car since 1956 and you still don't have a repair manual? Suggest you buy one, it will come in handy if you decide to keep the car.

Because I think Willys F head motors are cool, I looked it up. And I was right. Intake .018 cold. Exhaust .016 cold.

I do have these, though. I don't think they needed a service manual, since they owned the dealership ;) 1470797795660.jpg

Thanks. I tracked down a repo service manual for the f-head 6. I'm not clear at this point that the 4 and the 6 are exactly the same, and all of the common info on the net refers to the 4, which was manufactured some years b4 the 6.

I have a few 161 F-heads. They are neat little motors.
A race car called the Excalibur J was built and raced in the 1950's used a slightly modified 161.
I also have an article about how to modify them, but I can't remember the author or title so I can' t find it online ;(

I plan to use mine to build a 60's Roth style trike..... Someday

In the third crate I opened, I found a repop mechanics manual. My Jeepster is a bit of a hybrid. They never came with the f-head, just the L-head 161. In about 1958 my father swapped the hurricane 6 in from a wrecked SW they had at the shop.

As far as hopping them up, Brazil has lots of info on that, as they used it into the 1970's. Just adding a second carb got it up to 140hp.
