I have a 327 Chev with an Offenhauser manifold running 3 x 2G Rochesters. On the left hand side I have a persistent weep of oil from under the front centre bolt to the head on the manifold. I have tightened the bolt and also removed it and added some medium loc***e to seal it but still I get this little weep. Is this indicative of anything more sinister?
Seems really odd since there is no pressurized oil to the cylinder head or manifold. Oil is sent up the pushrod to the rocker arm and drains back. Nothing to intake except splash on the underside from the lifter valley. Is it possible that you have some sort of small leak from the valve cover to head sealing surface and the oil is pooling in the indentation around the bolt ? Is there any breather on the valve covers which may drip down onto the manifold ? Is there a PCV valve or hose in the valve cover which may have a pinhole leak in the hose ?
None of those. Just leaks up from the bolt. Not very much and a quick wipe with rag and it is gone. Will take a photo later after I have cleaned up the fuel stains on the manifold. Took one earlier and I was too embarr***ed to put it up.
Pretty common, the center bolts are open to the valley and the oil follows up the threads and out under the bolt head. Usually some Permatex or silicon on the threads have cured the seepage for me. Seems noticeable on aluminum intakes.
Very common on a sbc. I just fixed this on a 65 impala a week or so ago. Sent from my SM-G900T using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I never notice it, but I also always add a healthy dose of thread sealer to the threads on intake bolts, that go into open holes.
Yeah....my SBC does that too. Tried RTV on the bolts, but still get a bit of oil on the intake manifold. I just wipe it off, and ignore it. Doesn't really seem to be a big deal.
