Hi there, I'm trying to put together my flatty/T5 and I've cracked TWO bellhousings while trying to mate the engine/trans
I've had everything together before while it was in the car, but when trying to re***emble it now, I can't properly mate the "half-bell" to the adapter without cracking the half-bell. I really don't know what I'm doing wrong...the trans slips in easily and there's only a 1/4" gap or so before I start tightening bolts. Any ideas?

  2. My only thought, as this happened to me with my 265 and TKO, would be the throw out bearing length. is the throw out bearing making contact with the clutch fingers before the trans makes contact with the bellhousing? mine was too long and caused the throwout bearing to cause direct contact so that pressure was applied to the clutch and directed to the input cover. maybe this pressure, being applied to the trans instead of the bellhousing, is causing the cracks.

maybe you should make it so it fits all the way before you start tightening any bolts!

Yeah check those lineup dowels. They could be too big in diameter or length.

That's the way I was taught to install a ******, no matter if it's an auto or manual. Never use the bolts to "pull it up".

I have ran into a problem with the dowell pin alignment. I have put a taper in the adaptor to help guide the pins into place, and that has seemed to help. What intermediate adaptor are you using? I have done quite a few of these with not many problems. Everyone is right, if it don't slide to together, don't force it with the bolts.
