So I need a cool lookin' 4bbl air cleaner...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HotRod28AR, Mar 17, 2006.

  1. After a year of messin' with it we're done with the six deuce setup. Spring is here and we have to drive. Where can I find a cool '50s/early '60s looking 4bbl air cleaner? Something like the smooth Stellings/Hellings ones you see occasionally. I cant seem to find any good looking traditional ones...
    -Thanks, Dean

I have access to one that you may be interested in. It is a reproduction of the 1950's caddy air cleaners. Commonly called the bat-wing air cleaner. Right now my supplier is redoing and improving the molds, but the new casts should be out late this month. They are quality fibergl*** with a modern air cleaner and polished base hidden inside. They come in 14 and 18 inch and are a real cool addition to any rod. Let me know if you have an interest. contact me at olpartsmine@yahoo.com if you are interested. If not thanks for your time and happy hot rodding!

Bat wings came on '55-'56 Eldorados, '56-'57 Chevs, and C-300 Chryslers ... they're for dual 4 barrel cars

I have seen a few cars in the past that used an old 50's hubcaps as a top for an air cleaner.

Sweet looking & different. Sorry no pics of any tho.

I made a replica of one of them Caddy air cleaners, used a 3inch mandel exhaust U bend some sheet metal and an old chrome 14inch air cleaner base and top. it is still a work in progress but looks cool and will get the black and white checker paint job. It has a 11x3inch KnN fitler inside. A hubcap is a cool idea for a top-esp one with a script on it. A friend of mine made a air box/cleaner for his 460 BB from an old tractor gas tank facing backward...scolloped it to match the paint job on the outside of the rod.

you can still find the style you are asking about, just not sure who makes them.. Cant remember what your car looks like, but an original caddy aircleaner looks good )takes up space) but so do some other factory set ups (like an old oil bath) if modified (but it depends on the style of your ride).

Sell the 6x2 and go with a 2x4 or tripower.. alot simpler to run and still looks like its a hotrod.

***** I just put one on my 26 T I'm selling. (Got WAY too much tied up in the tri-power, so it came off!) I just plain LOVE the way this type of air-cleaner looks! It also has a nice air-flow in the design! I'd HIGHLY recommend buying one of these if you can afford it! They aren't cheap by any means, but they ARE cool! My 2 cents plain.

  17. Yup thats the design Im going with. Now what size to go with:D. Its a 327 mill with a big 750 or 780 Holley double pumper on an Offy intake with Fenderwell headers and 'vette valve covers. Which would go better, the 7" or 10 1/2"? Thanks again,

    Oops, sorry.

    Try this one:

    http://www.rodncustom.com/

Click on Online Catalog and pick 'carburetor and fuel system'. That should take you to the same place. They have Stelling and Hellings for both 2bbl and 4bbl carbs.:D
