This was covered in a earlier post/ the different color blacks...certain tints added to black paint made it stand out and some actually made the black look muddy, GM Black was mentioned as muddy ?? Came from the NAPA paint shop today and everyone agreed the most outstanding black was for the BMW car with green base. They said the color actually jumps at you ,was outstanding. Have any of you ever used this ? Gene
I've used BMW Avus Black (1960 -70's) in Glasurit Urethane Acrylic single stage. Photos usually don't do colors justice so have a small amount mixed. It's beautiful.
The BMW color your talking about is paint code 668 jet black is the name. It does not have a green base. It is made with high strength black toner, a few drops of red oxide toner, and a few drops of yellow toner. It is not a true deep black. It does have a brown look to it. I use this color just about everyday as BMW is my biggest customer. It is a nice color but there are some deeper blacks. Look for blacks that have blue in the toner list. Most guys can't tell the differences in deep blacks unless it's totally noticeable. I would use this color on a hotrod but I would have the paint supplier add some green shade blue toner. Not a red shade blue it will start to have a red side tone and appear purple. Hope this helps
You really can't tell until parked next to each other, and you probably can't tell at all in the shade. If you want to know, cut the paint 3 parts paint and 7 parts clear. Do a spray out with that. You'll say to yourself ,,,, "wtf that's brown, or that's green, or that looks like ****"
Martin Senor 8800 Black acrylic enamel that NAPA sells is one of the nicest blacks I have ever seen. It is BLACK. See avatar car. Don't know if they still sell it. Here's the data sheet. http://s7d9.scene7.com/is/content/GenuinePartsCompany/871197pdf?$PDF$
GM Onyx Black is muddy? Hmm. Maybe the car needs a bath? Other than GM Onyx black, IMO, for a deep single stage black, DuPont Centari 99 Pitch Black is hard to beat...
I've heard the same but I've seen it online. Haven't tried to buy it in years... https://www.johnsonautobodysupply.com/DuPont-Centari-Pitch-Black-99A-(Gallon).html
The first car I painted in my paint booth was a Model T sedan in black Dulux in 1977 It's still on the road in Texas. The owner is a member of a Model T driving club.
