I got ****d by a guy in Oregon on a customers 55 t bird radio repair (twice in a row), can anybody vouch for a stand up radio repair shop, closer to Washington the better, thanks all.
Yeah, ME! Ive been doing it since those things were new. Got 1000's of tubes and hundreds of radios plus parts. Im on the other coast, whats wrong with it?
Thanks for the reply, long story short the first time I sent the radio out it would blow the fuse when turned on, I didnt hear from the guy for a week & a half, I called him & he said uh, uh, uh, oh yeah that radio got here & was damaged in shipping, I said hold on to everything as I insured it for $500, he said, uh, uh , uh , uh, I threw all the shipping material away already, so I asked if he could fix it, he said $300,I said go. Received the radio back 3 weeks later & the tuning knob would not change the stations,, he said it must have been damaged in shippping (grrrrr) I sent it back, 1 week later I get it back & thing just makes this popping sound after it warms up & it gets louder & faster in rythum as the volume knob gets turned up. This is on a customers car & I have spent over $350 monkeying around with this arrogant guy, almost 2 months time & am done with him. I found 1 on ebay so maybe for the right price I will buy that one & hope it works, if not maybe I can send it to you for repair if you feel confident you can fix it
Well,I'd always try a fellow HAMBer first.Especially one with expertise. That being said, and no offense meant for 286 merc, you've already wasted time, money and peace of mind. So, I'd ask for references, rates and maybe an repair estimate before things got started. Again no offense, but that's what every good business would do. If you're still looking, try a copy of Hemming's Motor News-they always have a lot of ads for this sort of thing. Then go throught the same process again. I really hope 286 merc does work for you, and,if so, please let us know. Never know who will need the same work done and it'd be nice to advertise for a fellow HAMBer.
