Hot Rods 36 ford truck doors

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by anthony myrick, Aug 13, 2016.

  1. picked up a chopped 36 cab
the previous owner shortened the doors instead of leaning the A post back or stretching the roof
do any folks here have any length measurements for the doors? and good pictures of the inner structure

  2. What areas do you need?

Where did the doors get shortened ?

  3. they shortened them right down the center
would like to know the length at the belt line and a couple of measurements on the inside frame
thinking about buying the lower door frame patch panel and fabing a new skin from the belt line down and belt line filler piece

  4. Well, I can't wait to see a pic of that !
The door tops need stretched for a chop.

At the belt the door measures 33-1/8 heavy, the tape is on the bias if the curve

  5. There's a few pics of doors in my build thread on the last page and a few pages back

  6. thanks
    missing 1 7/8

  7. So they sectioned 1-7/8 out of the whole truck then. Nice

  9. sorta
the roof is not cut crossways, just lowered
they narrowed the doors and made a "new floor"
    its missing its rockers
the proportions are not bad, but I think I want to restore the doors back to the original length and lay the windshield back

  10. I think I am picturing this right, but...I would like to see what this looks like!

  11. Me too.

Like to see what the rear end brought

  12. will try to get a pic

  13. sorry for the bad pic, sun has just about set
this truck isn't cherry but has potential
the doors are just tacked together and has a good fit on the cuts IMG_9621.JPG

  14. it came with a clean, unmolested firewall and an old set of t-bucket style sbc headers

I know you can't afford to give up that much space in those cramped cabs.

  16. that's what I was thinking, its better than a Model A though

A better idea is to leave the cab and doors alone and add several inches of length to the cowl. You're not needing room for your body, you're needing room for your feet.

  18. the previous owner removed the lower hump in the firewall (replaced with flat sheet of metal)
it came with a very good stock one
if I build this I will use the stock firewall and was thinking what it might look like if I stretch the foot area a little

  21. It's a different solution to the chop problem. The taper of the floor pan and curve of the rockers needs attention now instead of the roof and pillars.
If you can pull it off it will look different than any other.

  22. I think both of you guys made a good deal.

your a body shop teacher and you need our advice?

  24. needed some measurements
this is the first time I have seen a chop with the doors shortened instead of lengthening the roof or changing the A post angle
one never stops learning, especially us old teachers

  25. Actually he only asked for measurements, not advice. But we know how this place is-right?

Post something here and you'll get unsolicited opinions. Some are helpful some aren't. The Majority of opinions come from people who didn't even read the thread.

    Here's my opinion.
You're is short for "you are"

I could only get at the drivers door of the 35 I have but the opening from the back side of the door hinges, top and bottom hinges, to the end of the door opening is 33 1/4"

Two inside pictures and two outside.

  28. just checked the other firewall that came with it
    its for a car
the previous owner cut at least 4to5 inches of foot room out when they flattened out the firewall
will definitely have to address that
