Hey everyone , I'm a newbie here too and have an issue with my tailights . Have a 30 ford coupe with a Chevy style headlight light switch . Running "tailights" are on even though headlight switch is off , and no brake lights when brake pedal is applied . Headlight switch , brake switch ? Where would be a good place to start ? Thanks in advance !
As far as t/lites you may have the wire on the wrong terminal. Brake lite needs power to one side of the brake switch.
Not enough info. Does the car have an OEM type signal switch? From what you say so far, the rear lights that stay on could be brake lights on. That would explain no change when applying brakes. On a dual filament bulb, the brake is the bright filament. Brake switch has power one terminal, then power gets sent out on other terminal to OEM turn signal switch, or to rear lights if you don't have OEM style T/S switch
Just got the car one road a few months back and everything's been working correctly up until today when I walked around the back of the car (running ) and noticed the tailights were on . And like I say the headlight switch was off ..
How did this problem come about? Have you made any changes to the wiring ? was the car working and this problem popped up? Could use a little more information.
I would also check the brake light switch. If the brake lights are on it can be difficult to tell if the tail light is also on. Try your signal lights. It should over ride the brake on one side when it flashes then you might see the tail light as it gets bright and dims. If it has a pressure switch in the brake line, I would try to change it to one that contacts the pedal. The fluid pressure type are notorious for failing and can start a fire.
Yep , that was it ! Thanks for the input ! Nuts , bolts etc are one thing , but I get alittle nervous around elelctrical ! Lol ! Thanks again !
