Reason I inquire about this is I just purchased one of those smaller compressors. This one is the craftsman 30 gallon, 6 HP 150 PSI red compressor that they have at sears. This unit will have a mul***ude of function for me, and I was curious if I could get away with using a spray gun with this unit. Is it too small? Any comments would be greatly appreciated. -Cory
you can paint a car with that. you can do almost anything except sandblasting,if the noise from the damn thing don't drive you crazy first!
Noise is good. I live in an apartment complex and I managed to get a garage. Every damn time I go out to get some work done, every single person wants to start talking. I love talking to new people, but when I motivate myself to start working on the car when I am dead tired, all I want to do is get work done. Now I can at least put the compressor on and ignore people lol. By the way, I was just reading the other post about how you took time out of your day to look at that transmission for that kid, that is a great thing to do for someone you don't even know, I have a lot of respect for you and the majority of the other posters from that topic. Also, with that small compressor, will I have to worry about running out of air? I was planning on getting a HVLP gun, I don't know if that info helps -Cory
Your compressor will work, I used the same one to paint my car. I used the ol Harbor Freight cheapo HVLP gravity fed gun. You will have to keep an eye on your gauge at the gun and make sure your pressure stays up. It should recover well enough while you mix more paint to refill the gun. You should be able to get it done, but as yorgi said the noise will drive you nuts Bill
NO ****! I love mine, but it's too damn loud. I need to build a seperate sound proof building for the damn thing. Get a respirator with good ear plugs....
that's plenty of compressor to paint with. you can check for sure by looking up this stuff. your compressor will have a SCFM rating and so will the gun. ie: compressor rated at 10 SCFM at 90 psi meaning it will run a tool at 90 psi at 10 SCFM like a sander or something, that will be turning on your compressor quite a bit. but a paint gun is going to use a lot less psi which means your SCFM will go up. i have a similar compressor to yours but don't use a HVLP using the older style gun, i primed and painted an entire car in my garage. no problems what so ever. plenty of air. i also use a long hose and place that loud beast over in the corner away from me. gary
