For 3 plus months I have been goung through pages of pictures and other bits of information on this thread.

Hope this thread keeps going, it must keep going because we still have to clear the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's to beyond.

 

Earlier I posted about delivering new Loyds For Eddie Pardue. The man had faith.

Lets have a little 1964 history for today.

Given a choice of any single season to relive, many folks who experienced drag racing’s golden age would undoubtedly dial their personal time machines back to 1964. Dragster lovers celebrated the return of nitromethane and alcohol to open competition at NHRA national events and sanctioned tracks nationwide, ending seven long years of pump-gas racing. Independent strips everywhere hosted best-of-three-round matches pairing racers holding coveted Drag News Mr. Eliminator Top 10 spots against gas and fuel challengers.

An East-vs.-West battle to reach 200 miles per hour raged into the summer, inspiring construction of swoopy streamlined fuelers, super-light “flexy flyers,” sticky slicks, and zoomie headers.Simultaneously, door-car fans were rabidly following fleets of new-model factory hot rods from Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler Corporation, including the first Supercharged/Factory Experimentals and exhibition wheelstanders. Modified Production classes were added for slightly older Detroit iron.

Traditional gas coupes, sedans, and pickups that shattered the 150-mph and 9-second barriers were publicized and romanticized in controversial advertising campaigns known as the Camgrinder Wars and Gasser Wars.

The 426 Hemi appeared.

I'm pretty sure that's the "Silent Hawaiian" Danny Ongais pushing his own car "Chevy,Too" at Riverside to an et. of 1 minute 35 seconds.

 

Don't really know the caption is from Hot rod mag.

 

Hello,
What car, FED, did Danny Ongais drive when he first started at Lions? Was it a very low angled version of a Chassis Research rail? The time period would have been 58-60.
