this morning rev, vern and myself went and got his delray out of storage,as you can see it has been setting for awhile...after we got it home and unloaded we just had to see if it would fire off.with a battery and some new cables we got it to turn over..the carb was so rusted up that the butterflys wouldnt open .with alittle starting fluid down a port on the intake it fired.it only ran for a few seconds ,but that was enough...when i left he and vern where on there way to get tune-up stuff and a new carb from phil.. stay tuned ,we are going to have this thing on the road for the straykatt 500.
Right on! He told me he was fired up about tearing into the car and getting it roadworthy. have fun guys!
Thanx Bulletproof for posting the pics. We just got back from Phil's shop. He gave me a reman'd carb off of a motor he pulled out of his fleetline. I hope to fire off the "new" carb tomorrow. You never know DV8, I may drive IT to Tampa next year! Reverend Jake
If that carb is a Carter WA-1, I have two of them. They're yours but will probably need a kit. Glad you got it home, homey.
Thanx Rashy. The one I pulled off of the car is a Rochester, but I'll look at watcha got. Reverend Jake
REV...we never really talked about your plans for it other than getting it on the road. What all are you planning to do to it?
I'm gonna build this one as a simple mild kustom. Something similar to Myer's 57 Ford. I've always wanted "the" DeSoto grille. And of course it will have a gold tooth. I want a different front bumper, but I'm not sure what one. There isn't much in plans of color yet, because I want to focus on drivability first. Once I have it starting consistantly I will put my Superior dropped spindle disc brake kit on it to take care of the WHOA's after it GO's. It needs patches for the headight areas and quarter patches too. I'll focus there after that. I'm stoked! Reverend Jake
Kongrats Rev!!! The '58 is a factory built kustom right off of the show room floor. I love seeing them cleaned up and made into a mild kustom. I saw a pale yellow wagon with white scallops real kool and tasteful. All you have to do is lower it & drive the wheels off of it. Let me know if I can help. Happy Trails, Mick
