    Hi all

I need to whip the intake off my 390 (due to losing a lifter down the valley) and I was wondering what do I do about all the coolant?! Will I have to drain the system before pulling it off or just drain enough so the level drops below the intake then top it back up?

Also anyone know the coolant ratio? I'm ***uming 50/50 water and antifreeze

you can drain it to just below the intake, 50/50 should be correct . watch out that thing is heavy!

The stock intake is a bit heavy to say the least. I believe it weighs 80 pounds. I have had mine off a couple of times and used a cherry picker to remove and install it. Fit under without removing the hood (61 Starliner).

Used to replace lifters in those all the time without pulling the intake manifold. Even the ones in the corners with just the small pushrod holes. Some magnets, a lifter tool and a lot of patience will get it done.

X2!! If you do pull it use 2 long alignment studs front and back of one head to guide it on.

While you have that boat anchor off, do yourself a favor and throw it in the iron pile and buy an aluminum one! Your back will thank you later.

It's alright now, disaster averted!!! I managed to wiggle the lifter around with a manget and a little endoscope I bought for my phone (which is surprisingly good) and relocated it back down its hole, saved me a spine and a load of hours
